Hello, my friends, and a jolly warm welcome to one and all. Many moons ago, my friend, the exceedingly kind and generous Brett @Elmo sent me nearly 6 lbs of micromatrix from the Purse State Park in Maryland, USA. The tiny fossils found in this gravel are from the Piscataway Member of the Aquia Formation which is Late Palaeocene in age and about 60 million years old, give or take. I have been trying to sort through a little every day and am about two-thirds of the way through and have found lots and lots of goodies. Now, this is well out of my comfort zone as there is not a brachiopod to be seen, but lots of teethies from sharks, rays, skates, and bony fish. I have no idea what I am doing at all, and so Brett, who is also seeking some IDs, and I decided it might be useful and fun to start a thread to show off our finds, hopefully get some help with identification, encourage others to post their own finds and have a fun time, really. I don't have any Palaeocene material at all, except a couple of larger sharks' teeth from this location. So, please feel free to comment, just watch and enjoy or tell me off for my obviously stupid attempts at ID. I'll start this off with a really beautiful tooth that I think might be Delpitoscyllium africanum. On second thoughts, perhaps Ginglymostoma cf. subafricanum is a better fit? Because of the multiple side cusps.

Took a couple trips to Eocene/Miocene locations in Monmouth County, NJ. Thought I'd share some of my finds. First trip was on 11/17. Was a warm 60 degrees outside! Group shot of my finds. My first find was an erratic fossil from the Devonian with signs of bivalve/brachiopod, crinoid and Pleurodictyum. I also found this separate section of what I assume is a Crinoid stem Several bone pieces. Eagle Ray plate - my first ray plate found in NJ. Some of the shark teeth: Otodus obliquus - First time finding this species Otodus chubutensis - First time finding this species Physogaleus contortus Carcharias sp. Had to do some reconstructive surgery as it fell apart coming home.

Solved: it’s an egg case! Most likely for a cockroach that snuck into the clay. Gross/interesting. Hi all - wanted to see if anyone can provide any insight into two little “fossils” I found in a chunk of gray clay, likely from the Cretaceous, Ozan formation, in Central Texas. I’ve included a photo of the matrix as well. It’s a really light, gray clay that dissolves into mush in water. I ran some of it through a garden sieve and pulled out these two little fossils so far. The first looks like a little razor blade tic tag. Not sure if the other one is a tooth or a fragment of something else. Thanks for the help!

I had a couple hours to kill so I took a trip to Calvert Cliffs today. It is really picked over by this time of year. I found 7 ray plates, 3 small shark teeth(2 are broken), 3 crab claw tips, and some misc bone frags. I also brought back some matrix to go through and grabbed a little clay too. Does anyone one of breaking down the clay ever produces anything?

I’m pretty new to the collecting thing. I’ve made it out about a dozen times over the past 2 years and I really enjoy the excitement of finding sharks teeth and ray plates in southern Maryland.

Not the best pics in the world but I have to get ready to take my son to a doctor's appointment. I wanted to post these anyway... I'll take better photos later and put them on my blog. Note: my 12 yr old son is into smooth stones for building cairns and my 8 year old and I are into the teeth and fossils. (I will label these better and I will never use my laptop to photograph fossils and teeth ever again LOL )
