    What is this?

This rock was delivered with 5 yards of landscaping river rock. I noticed the strange colors and layers then the imprint on the other side. Any ideas?

    Need help with identification

Found this in a load of river rock delivered to my home in Omaha, Nebraska. Tried to find where the river rock came from but no luck. About the size of a large walnut. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Vertebrate

Found the vertebrate in some landscaping river rock. I have no clue on the type of animal. I'm pretty sure it's part of a vertebrate but I could be wrong. The pointed thing I found by ft. Worth. I have no clue with that either.
  4. I found this down near the Genesee river here in NY today. It's strange compared to the other fossils (if this is one) I've found out there--instead of a handful of specimens, it seems to be riddled with mostly 2 or 3 different types of small, pistachio-sized sea shells. The outside of the rock is pockmarked where (presumably) shells had made impressions but had fallen out before fossilization. This rock has this sparkling luster in a couple small spots, mostly on the large fossil shell fragment (?) I'm seeing, and a few of these curious grape-like formations. The biggest these white grape like clusters is going down into a shallow earthworm sized cavity into the rock. So yeah, I don't even know how I would describe this rock, other than I think it has fossils, and I think it's chert. I also wish I could give you a really nice shot of one of the individual shells, but many of them as you can see are like 2/3 within the rock so it's hard for me to get a handle on their shape. I'm also not super knowledgeable on Fossilized sea shells unfortunately. help?

    Landscape River Rock Finds

Howdy, Couple day old member here. I am a Landscape Professional and I see alot of river rock. Lately I've moved to Austin, TX and have noticed alot of petrified wood in the rock materials we use. I'm 99% positive it is all native, locally sourced in the Texas Hill Country. Anyway I have a few pieces I'm curious to whether it's machine marks or not and a couple pieces I'm not sure if they're just gnarly rocks or not. Petrified wood ID is what brought me here and I found some good info so I signed up. Any information and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks yall!

Anyone know what this might be?

I found this while camping in Ohio and after getting home and cleaning it up, it looks to have some type of fossil. Maybe coral or slug? I'm really not sure. These pictures are with a micro camera.

    Anyone know what this is?

Can anyone tell me what this potentially is? Found it on a tributary to the Yellowstone River near big timber, Montana. Appears to may have been wood at some point but is petrified or fossilized now. Thanks for any input. I realize that this is not the best picture or description.
  8. LOCATION Turon River, Hillend, NSW, Australia GEOLOGY I don't know how to find this, the rock has quartz in it, I would appreciate a link or further reading if you have any. FORMATION Grey with shiny quartz particles ASSEMBLAGE No other fossils observed at this site, it was found next to a fresh water river that had recently had a flush of water through it. It may have washed down from another site. DISCOVERY It was loose beside the river beside a rock I was sitting on, I looked down and saw this rock and thought "that looks interesting" CHARACTERISTICS I think it is a trace fossil of seeds and footprints. The "seeds" are the same shape with a slit in the middle of the shapes. The seed shapes are smooth on the surface beside the splits. They measure 8 mm x 12 mm. There are also shapes that look like trace footprints with three toes. These are all a similar size of about 8 mm to the middle "toe" and 8 mm wide. What confuses me is they are all over the rock top and bottom and sides. The whole rock is 23 cm x 14 cm and is 6 cm thick. The pics show Side A Side B Close up Close up

    WHAT IN THE WORLD???

I am new to TFF and I'm jumping in with a big HELLO and a request for any knowledge or information on an interesting rock I found on the banks of the Columbia River near Portland Oregon. On a recent rock hunt I found what appeared to be a human size skull down between two very large boulders. I was careful in adjusting the big rocks enough so I could reach down and pull up to inspect my find. It weighed about 5 lbs and like I said, about the size of a human skull. Upon further inspection I determined this was a rare form of fossilized or perhaps petrified bone. Climbing the large boulders on the banks of the Columbia River, I fumbled the 5 pound rock and dropped it on the big boulders. It broke into two pieces and to my surprise the fossil center was an bright lime green color and kind of looked like a milky glass type rock or mineral. Like quartz . then there was a definite divide in the color and texture. Bone like material attached to dark brown and bright green mineral of the inside. I've asked other rock hounds in my community and I got, Jasper, Oregon jade perhaps even a fossil bone. Im still clueless as to what exactly the multi dimentional rock is. Can anybody identify what this rock is?
  10. We are not sure what this is. My daughter is very excited. She thinks she's found her first fossil. Does anyone know?

    Help on Identification

Found this in an area where I also found some Native American arrow heads and fire starter. Not sure if it's a fossil, rock.....but it is oddly symmetrical and natural in shape and in an area where other items were found. Hope the experts have some ideas. Thanks

    What is this Metal?

I had this for about 10 years or longer. My daughter when young was skipping rocks picked up this rock and liked it. She in turned dropped it on a sidewalk and it split in half. When I picked it up i was tring to figure out what is inside the rock. So can anyone tell what this is, is this normal in rocks?

    Unknown interesting find. ID help?

Hello, This is another find from my Grandma's river rock (her backyard this time). The grooves on the side caught my attention, and when I picked it up it was light for it's size. I also noticed holes that I usually associate with bone. Any ideas for what it may be? *I took the pictures with my iPad, so if you need better quality pictures, I can try to get some. **If any measurements are needed, I can get those (weight, length, etc.)
