I found this under a few inches of dirt in my yard. I've lived here since 2004 so surprised to find it. This novice is curious to figure out what it is, how common this is to find, possible age... I'm about 5 miles from the Puget Sound outside Seattle and at 500 ft above sea level so guessing it was brought to where I found it. Can almost make out tiny shells in some of the holes. It's quite heavy and slightly larger than a football. Thanks community!

Hi, new to the forum here. I found this on the banks of a river today. I think it's a either an old tree branch or a bone? Not sure what it is. Any ideas? I live in western NY if that helps.

PA fossil rock ID, very heavy, found near Devonian fossils
LindsayWilson posted a topic in Fossil ID
I found this in our backyard in a rock pile. I find many Devonian fossils in the shale lined creeks around Erie, PA. This rock appears to be similar but is extremely heavy and different colored. I can make out fossils but don’t recognize some of the imprints abs it appears folded and is SUPER heavy. For comparison, the rock I found with it, also pictured here is about 3-4x the size but the smaller one weighs 3x as much. No magnetism, but has a burnt spot. Was it perhaps originally a large piece of the lighter fossil plate that someone burned (possibly in a fire pit?) and that is how it appears metamorphic and significantly heavier or more dense? does not look like a meteor...no shiny smooth surface, etc.... any ideas? -
Found this near a lake in polk county Wisconsin. There seems to be a somewhat unusual pattern on it. Can anybody identify this? I can get more photos and dimensions if needed. Thanks a bunch!

We had a discussion earlier this year in this forum about if some pictures of mine show "melting" of a limestone rock or of the nautiloid shell within it. I came to think of this when I went back to the area and noticed what could be some magmatic intrusion or, more probable, a magmatic "frying" of the original limestones, near my fossils finds (10 meters) and possibly more below the finds. It would not melt my fossils, but maybe deform some part of them (heat plus pressure of gravity from now several houndred of meters of beds above it, now eroded away). Moreover, to find the boundary between nearby formation in the Oslo field it would be helpful to identify this rock. I think it may be hornfels, but my geology map says hornfels is found in the other nearby formation and feldspatmarmor in this one. Is the rock hornfels? The first picture shows a 2-3 meters broad ridge or band of this rock, between the limestone beds in the formation ('the bulk' of the rock of feltspat should have a fine, velvety appearance). Next is close up pictures of the rocks.

My son found this in the same spot or general area as the ammonite thingy. They both have similar markings as well which is odd to me I guess. It's about 3" long and 1 " wide at its widest. thank you in advance

I found this in Indiana near Columbus. I originally thought it may have been a tool of some sort because of the triangular shapes, but the more I look at it, the more I've wondered if it's a bone. Or maybe it's just a beat up rock. Thsnk you in advance for any informatio.

first post, so im gonna try my best. Found this weird rock by a cliff in San Antonio, Texas. I'm not sure what it is, but the best way I can describe it is from the top it looks like a circle with something around it, and then a layer of rock. Also has these white/tan cracks in the middle structure. I'm confused, but maybe yall might know or see more that I'm missing. Any replies would be awesome, thanks! best i could get with details: 10cm long 6 1/2cm width on brown 4cm width on red 2 1/2cm for the little circle on top

I found this over the weekend at a rock quarry in west central Minnesota. I just cannot find out what it is. Can anyone help me? It's not magnetic and weighs what I feel it should, for the size.
