Hi Everyone Beautifully Strange Unusual Rock This is one of several rocks in my yard. What are the abstract markings on this rock? What kind of rock do you think it is?

hi, me and my 10yr old son have recently got into rocks, fossils and beachcombing - him moreso but he cant go on own, so i go with him (it gets me out of the house). The following photos are bits he found at our local rocky beach (parton bay, west cumbria uk). We have no idea if they are fossils or "just rocks" (this is what his older brothers have said they all are!) i am pretty sure that the "white/grey/black" piece is fossilised wood/charcoal (L) and the "clam shell" (P) is not shell material anymore but solid rock.

Found this rock on the beach in Runswick Bay, Yorkshire. It is very light weight compared to its size. Is it a rock or some type of fossil? Could it be Scoria? Any help with the ID is appreciated.

I came across this landscaping rock on a recent job. I believe that my grandparents also had this same rock in some of their landscaping years ago. It brought back childhood memories of it at least. I think it’s “out of style” now and no longer used. I’m just curious as to what it is. I’ve searched on the internet to no avail. It’s lighter in weight and tends to break easily as most of it is full of cracks. It is brown on the outside, but is a grey color on the inside. I wish I had a few more pictures, but I didn’t have time to stop work and get better shots. Any ideas?

Hi all, I was on the bank of a creek west of Festus, MO and I found this odd looking rock. It was partially buried in the mud. I didnt think anything of it until my wife said "that thing looks like a turd." I began researching coprolite and I'm curious what your thoughts are. I've always loved pre-historic history but my knowledge of fossils is extremely limited, to put it lightly. There is a crack that runs along the back in which there appears to be a quartz-like material. Any information or opinions would be much appreciated!

I have a rock tumbler I don't use but it is very good. I don't have much fossil hunting equipment. I really want a pick hammer. I only carry a trowel when hunting. This will also boost my fossil hunting luck.

2 Carboniferous Fossils (Maybe) strange objects - need help :)
corporateidentity posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hello, I have two strange objects that my wife and I found in Pittsburgh in Carboniferous territory. The triangular shape one is a little larger that a quarter while the spherical rock is about the size of a baseball. I haven't seen anything like these two rocks in any of my fossil trips, so any help would be terrific. Thanks everyone!- 5 replies

Found this in Lake Michigan on the coast near Platte River. Pretty small - the rock is about 1.5" (inches) tall and about 3/4" deep.

Hello again! I also pulled these from the ice age clay along the coast yesterday At the time my eye was caught by the 'air holes' and texture, but now I've cleaned them up a bit, I think these are some kind of porous rock with a harder redish 'crust'. Google is suggesting some kind of volcanic origin? I'll post pics of the first one and then the second. Any ideas? Thank you!

Yesterday I bought a fossil box from the local natural history museum, just for the sea urchin inside. And there is a mysterious thing inside that looks like fossil but I've never seen something like this. Maybe it's just a weird looking rock?

Hi everyone. I will update my profile and introduce myself soon, but I'm eager to see if I can get some help with this. Found on Happisburgh Beach, Norfolk, England. I don't know if it's just a rock, or a bone, a fossil...?! Can anyone help or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

Here’s one a friend and I have been trying to settle for a little while. One end of the argument is that this is an unusual rock carried off the mountains by glaciers. the other end is that this is a heavily eroded bivalve.

I'm back with more questions about some rocks. Im curious what kind of rocks these are and how they are formed. When tapped together they almost sound like the old white dice from boardgames. The dark spots are not on the rock rather they are in the rocks. Any help? Thanks, Hope
