Hello everybody, I found the forum while trying to figure out how to get some info on what I believe is a fossil I found on a hike. While I'm fond of fossils, I have to admit knowing next to nothing about them apart from what I learn from museum visits. If anyone could help me Id my find and/or estimate its age, I'd really appreciate it. I uploaded pictures from every side with a cm scale. I found it on a river bank in the Ardennes region (Belgium). Hope someone can tell me anything about it. Cheers!

Everything I find is from right here in southern Iron County in SE Missouri off of Big Creek & Black River. If someone would be so kind as to put a name to these little guys so I can label them I'd greatly appreciate it. please & thank you The 1st picture is the best looking shell I've ever found but it's only a few centimeters across. . The 2nd picture is of one I just found a few days ago while I was at the creek (Big Creek) dimensions are 1"x1" The last three pictures are kind of a funny story and not at the same time. So one of my hobbies is making arrowheads & while searching for good rocks to knock off some chunks I busted one in half & this was on the inside. It's dimensions are 2.5"x2.5" So in posting this for some reason the first and second picture got flip-flopped. so the second picture is only a few centimeters across I took that picture with my microscope

New member here and I've been doing some fossil hunting with my 9 yr old son. We found this in Harker Heights, Texas and I can't figure out what it is. I'm hoping it's tooth from a shell crushing shark. Might be a shell?

I decided to go hit up a new creek that I’d had my eyes on for a while. I didn’t know whether or not this would have anything good in it, so I biked there to go find out myself. Let me say, for the 1 1/2 hour I biked to reach this place, I’m really happy with all that I found. I also saw one of the coolest owls I’ve ever seen. It was about 2 and a half feet in size and the color of it was orangish brown and black. I think it was a great horned owl, and it looked like this: It swooped down on a branch about 10 feet in front of me, looked me dead in the eyes, and then a second later flapped it’s wings 2 times and was gone. It left about as fast as it landed, but stayed long enough where I can remember the encounter. Now onto the finds! I found an assortment of shells, including a few that might need some identification if y’all are wanting to chime in. Found some shark teeth, ray plates, and large reptile bones as well. Here’s all the stuff from this new creek: the total haul: a shell I would like some ID help on (aquia formation, Paleocene): found this beautiful gastropod from the same creek yesterday: any ideas would be helpful! Another gastropod: a what I believe to be a turritella and a fish scale in the rock: some bone fragments (large but nice pieces): and lastly, shark teeth and a croc tooth: that was a long report so if you stuck around, thanks! I won’t ever forget this day and how close that large bird came to me!

Found on the shore of the North Channel at Little Current, Manitoulin Island, Ontario. The side of the piece features a transverse view of a Crinoid. Can this be ID'd more specifically? Above is some sort of shell. Can this be ID'd? There are various other small fossils, though I don't know if those are identifiable.

Hello everyone! I haven't posted here in a long while, mostly due to lack of finds. I dug this out of my collection, and wondered what it could be. It looked like some form of calcite, but has an oddly organic shape. I also noticed that it has some small fossils, possibly shells, attached to the bottom. It came from Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, near the foot of Jebel Hafeet. I am not sure of the age, but I assume it is Miocene. I have found many numulites close to the location, as well as gastropod steinkerns, and urchins.

I found this piece outside Kansas City, Kansas. It was found with some other fossils from the Carboniferous (many shells). It looks like a cast or a mold? Maybe a really large Gastropod? Pictures attached.

FossilizedGerman posted a topic in Questions & Answers
Hello! So I found these three fossils and was curious to know about them... one i think is to be a bryozoan branch the tooth i believe to be a cow tooth not sure how old it may be and the last one is a type of small brachiopod its super tiny but again I don't know much about fossils yet but I am ready to learn more ! So if any one knows anything about these fossils that'd be a great help! First 6 pictures are from the riverbed and the last two are from the beach in Lübeck,Germany Thanks!- 3 replies

Here I have two more rocks that I found in the Woodbridge, NJ area. I could see some type of shell in one of the rocks and possible plant material in the other. Let me know what you think please. Sorry here is the other photo.

The James river was not what I had expected. I was hoping to find a meg the size of my hand, but that didn’t happen. No worries, I had a lot of fun. I saw a river otter, a lot of osprey, eagles, and more wildlife which was fun to look at from a distance. The first day of the trip, we went over the east over formation, I collected mostly whale bone from that day and nothing else spectacular. It was only when we went to a Yorktown exposure on the last hour of the trip that I found three stunning chesapectens, including what I think the biggest one to be a jeffersonius. Later that day, I went to a nearby creek in Williamsburg where I found the large red ecphora from. The third day, I found some beautiful Gastropods including another ecohora, a whelk, and a beautiful olive shell with a nice gleam on it (no I didn’t apply anything it’s naturally shiny). And besides the olive, the best finds of the day include the large coral and the large colonial wine bottle bottom, which is one of my favorite artifacts I have even though it’s incomplete. Anyways, enough talking, here’s some of the photos from that trip. the total haul: whale bone and gastropods: gastropods. The red ecphora was found in a creek and the olive shell is one of my favorite gastropods found that day. It’s definitely a stunner! here’s the chesapectens I found, including what I think is a jeffersonius on the top left. large piece of coral. colonial wine bottle bottom. This was found near nathaniel bacons castle so maybe nathaniel bacon and his posse of evil doers came through this area? It’s a stretch but that’s my hypothesis. Next week I’m taking some kayaks out and I’m getting a large megalodon tooth. I can’t keep festering in my squalor knowing that I don’t have a large tooth in my collection this year yet. It just isn’t right.

I found this interesting shell (I think) embedded in limestone with a bunch of other Carboniferous fossils. This was found in the Kansas City, MO area. There are these really interesting swirls on the shell I haven’t really seen that before, I’m going to try to remove the fossil from its matrix. Any ideas?

Possible Trilobite and Bivalve Fossils found by side of road in Sharon CT.
cabes234 posted a topic in Fossil ID
Two days ago some workmen laid some stone by the side of a road near a pond in Sharon CT and I found two fossils one that appears to be the back of a Trilobite or a Chiton and another that looks to me like scallops or some other bivalve (I know that scallops and trilobites never existed at the same time). Does anyone have any ideas as to what these could be. Also I know this rock is not from where I found it, it was probably sourced from a local quarry so I would have to check with the highway department of Sharon to figure out where these come from.- 17 replies

I found this fossil on Barrassy beach in Ayrshire Scotland. It looks like a shell on the outside with a mesh of white and grey rock inside. I haven't seen any other shell fossils that look like this though. It's partially burnt on the top, I found it next to a fire pit so it has probably been scorched recently. What do you think this is and how old do you think it is?

I found a couple of small fossils on the Buffalo River in Arkansas. I was curious to see if anyone had any idea about them. I’ve posted a group picture and close up shots.

Hi Everyone, newbie here. I have been collecting fossils since my grandfather gave me a mastodon vertebra when I was young. I just found this fossil shell in a tiny creek on private property in a dark blue grey silty clay. There were numerous other fossil scallop shells and large barnacles etc. I've never seen one of these before. Would love an id if anyone knows what it is. Thank you in advance

I am unable to identify these pieces from my grandad's collection. He is now unable to clearly see and so sadly couldn't identify it. It must be something, he was a zoologist and the shale meant enough to have a crack repaired. Parts look like bones to me. I'd love to get these identified so I can prep them, making them clearer so he can see them clearer again.

Hello, I'm very new to this, so I hope I get things right here. Can anyone help me identify this? I found it in an old bottle-dump near Selkirk in the Scottish Borders that dates back to the 1960s. It's on the broken edge of a stone slab but from what I can see it measures about 5.7 cm across. Is it some kind of shell? If anyone needs more info I'd be happy to give it. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone I have just started looking for fossils and found one yesterday at Lulworth Cove that I think is really interesting. My Mum told me that the holes in this rock are may be from a sponge but we don't know what type. We also noticed a very interesting shell shape on the side of the rock. Does anyone have an idea what this might be? There are very thin cracks in the rock too and we were wondering if there might be something else inside! Thanks so much for any information you might be able to share. If more photos would be helpful let me know and I can upload more. T.
