Skin or plating of some kind?

I found this in some glacial till in a creek bed here in southeast Nebraska and I have absolutely no idea what it is. It kinda looks like alligator or crocodile skin, but it could be fossilized mud for all I know (seems a bit too regular and layered for that though). Maybe someone who knows more than me can help!

    Missouri Fossil

Hi, I found this yesterday in one of our farm roads - I know it is a fossil of some type. I tried to "dig" it out, but the rock kept getting bigger - so I settled for taking a few pictures. I was thinking if it was "something identifiable" I could go back and get it. Please let me know what your thoughts are- thank you,!

    Skin? Please help ID

Ok, this fossil has me puzzled. It was found in Bois D Arc creek in Bonham; Fannin Co. Texas. Forgive me for not knowing much of the geological info on Fannin Co. Texas, but I think it's in the Austin Group, Late Cretaceous. This piece looks like skin. Veining in sections, and a complex structure all the way through. About 1 1/4" long.
  8. Hi everyone, I have this nice Hadrosaur mummified skin, bought online. Just wondering what genus/species this could be? Edmontosaurus perhaps? It was found in the Hell Creek Formation in Montana, 65 mya. Any suggestions will be much appreciated! Cheers!

    Fossil Skin Fragment

Hello, I have managed to find an interesting piece for me. It seems that it is part of skin. It is around 4 inches x 3 inches. Other is part of a skin with bone. It is similar in size. Maybe someone can help with info about what this is?

    Is This Real Dinosaur Skin?

I am interested in getting a piece of mummified Edmontosaurus skin impression from South Dakota. Could anyone tell if this is real?
  13. Hey everyone, Recently stumbled across a few interesting pieces of what looks like sandstone (at least the outter part is coated in sandstone) on a hike in the santa monica mountain range in california. I haven't seen pieces quite like this before and was hoping someone could shed a little light on how they came about. it looks to me like an interesting formation of sandstone (perhaps water driven) but at the same time, part of me can't help but think it looks like some prehistoric petrified mammal skin or something. either way i haven't seen much material that looks like this around (i go hiking every week) so am curious how it came about. i found several pieces that all looked similar and that looked like they could potentially fit together (although most of the pieces were missing. and they all had the same concave indentantion on the underside, and that initeresting patter on the top. figured i'd post a few pics on here to see if any of you more seasoned hunters would like to help me unravel the natural history of these pieces. thanks in advance!!

No, Really, It Looks Like Dermal Layers....

Okay, How bout this one? Found in the same area near Yuma, CO. same place as "The Egg Maybe" ... and the the tooth that is not a Bison tooth... but, maybe a Gomphotheriidae.. I think it looks like scale (ish) things on (we'll call it the top) and then Dermal layers on the side (YES, I polished part of this one too... okay... well, most of it... sorry) So, here it is.... and it measures 1 1/2" x 3/4" x 1/2" Now, be kind please.... I see cells, and cell walls... don't I, it could happen right? ...more pics on the way. ... and thanks for reading...

    Snake Skin?

Found a rock this weekend with what looks like an impression of a snake. Can anyone confirm if this is a fossil or the negative impression of one?

    Skin?

Hello, was wondering if anyone could help identify this fossil? It was found in a clay bank near Augusta, Georgia. It looks likes pictures I've seen of supposed fossilized dinosaur skin. Any help would be very much appreciated.
  17. http://www.lightsource.ca/media/media_release_20130426.php Experiments will determine dinosaur’s skin colour and why the fossil preserved intact"One of the only well preserved dinosaur skin samples ever found is being tested at the Canadian Light Source (CLS) synchrotron to determine skin colour and to explain why the fossilized specimen remained intact after 70-million years." Check it out! =P
  18. Found some great fossils yesterday. Found some great Mucrospirifers (arkonensis and thedforensis), my first ammonite - though small (1.5cm) and my first Cyrtina and a few things I cannot name. I'm sorry this photo is not better... should have also taken a photo of the underside. I was out hunting with my sister near Rock Glen Ontario and she found it so it's in her posession. Otherwise I would have taken better photos of it. I searched high and low for something similar. We found this on March 27, 2013 in the Ausable river near Rock Glen, Ontario. It appears to be fossilized skin. The underside seems bony with ridges. The closest thing I could find that resembled this texture was the outer flat section of a large trilobite. Any idea what this is?? (about 2 inches wide)

    Skin Imprint?

So I went hiking in southern Utah and I noticed that the sandstone in the area had a lot of petrified wood embedded in it. The wood was unremarkable, but I noticed something in the center of the rock.... ....that looked kinda cool.
