I recently got this rather nice Edmontosaurus annectens braincase from the Lance formation. But what's interesting, it has this large hole in the top of the skull. The seller has told me that the hole is not the result of any collecting or prep damage. The seller found the piece themselves and apparently it was found upside down in the field. I've bought from this seller before and they always have high quality fossils so I'm inclined to believe the seller when they say that this hole is old damage. So then my first thought would then be, could this be a big tooth mark? Although I don't want to jump to conclusions. It's a large gash on the top of the skull. On the top there are a few pieces of bone that kinda seem like they were pushed in and on the side there are some bone fragments that seem to be kinda push out. Something pushed in from the top and then ripped out to the side maybe? I have some T.rex replica teeth and one seems to fit fairly decently. So I'm wondering, how plausible is it that this is a T. rex bite mark? We know T.rex ate Edmontosaurus of course, and we know it can crush bone. Opinions? Braincase overview. Hole closeups.

Hello. I got this fossil from a friend. I don't know where he got it or where it came from. About 5.08 centimeters and weighs 10 grams. It is the size of a rodent or baby. Is this a skull? If not, what type of bone is it? Thanks.

This was found on the sand in Myrtle beach South Carolina. Looks like a small vertebrae possibly or a fish skull element, it’s about the size of a dime. Thanks for looking.

I am posting theses images pulled down off a Facebook fossil ID site because this has me STUMPED. It s a partial skull found in a Nebraska river. But of what?! Eyes and ears are high up and way back on the skull. I'll try to add more pics. Sorry stills from video are blurry. You can see what I believe is the ear canal close to the eye socket in the last photo.

Hello! I recently saw this crocodile skull fossil at a rock shop. I understand that there are many fake croc fossils from Morocco, but I'm having trouble identifying this one. I don't see any obvious signs that are present with bad fakes, but I'm a real novice at fossil identification. Are there any red flags I'm missing? For reference, the skull is approximately 11" x 4".

A new study came out about Irritator where they scanned the skull to get a brain endocast. The paper itself is open access and so are the 3d files! I guess I know what I'll be 3d printing soon... Labelled as a Mosasaur skull, from Morocco. I suspect it's more partial skull or skull sections rather than the entirety (but still pretty nice) But, anyone able to take a look and give your thoughts on if it looks legit? It'd make a jolly nice centerpiece to my Kem Kem display. If this gets the go ahead as being real, I will order it and a few other bits from the same seller tonight. Quite small, so either a juvenile or a smaller species of Mosasaur? It's the small size that's making me question it. Picture 1 -- the eye socket and other hole match other Mosasaur skulls, so I'm correct that that's the upper skull section? Picture 4 -- this looks like it has teeth sockets? So a jaw. Picture 6 -- Is the longish, segmented bone a row of verts? From Mosasaur or something else in the matrix? If someone could take a look, that would be awesome. Thanks

Hello, I'm new on this forum and I've got a fossil of which I don't know what it is so I thought I'd ask. It's from the Kem Kem. I don't know which formation but it comes from Taouz. Only one side has been preparated. I haven't preparated the other side because it's a pretty thin bone and I'm afraid it might break. It seems like it has broken and been repaired before. Also, there's an Onchopristis tooth attached to it. I think it might be a skull fragment because of it's odd shape. Specifically I think it might be some theropod's left postorbital of which only the inside has been preparated. But there aren't a lot of Kem Kem skulls to compare it to. So it might be something entirely else. Any ideas as to what it could be would be highly appreciated. Top view Front view

Found this along the Cape Fear River Basin in Bladen County, North Carolina. I was hunting petrified wood and stumbled across this fossil that resembles a skull. Could someone possibly help me to identify it?

Hi there can anyone identify the species/age. guessing old due to the condition of teeth. also found in The Cotswolds. ignore back ground clutter of the photos.

Iffy about this because China fossils are often fake, but it's being sold from a collection outside of China (exported in 80s). Described as "restored and glued and protected with B72" 17cm x 15 by 13. Vague location beyond "Cretaceous China" What's the consensus? Fake, composite or the real deal? Edit. Just realised I put in wrong forum. Should be in the is it fake section.

Mosasaur Skull in matrix (Real?)
MaxC posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi everybody I found a seller who is wanting to sell this Mosasaur matrix-specimen. Initial photo's look ok, but I would like to get your opinions on it. Can ask for detailed photos if needed. This would be my first 'major' item that I would add to my humble collection, so naturally, I'm cautious. Kind Regards Max (Belgium)- 12 replies

Hello all! This is my first post in the forum besides the introduction. I’m open to any and all interpretations on this piece. Did I just find a fish head in my backyard? There are tons of fossils (marine and palm) pouring out of the hills on my property. I’m so close to Chattanooga (10 minutes away), I imagine we would share similar geology but I’m unsure and try not to make assumptions. Yay for the scientific method! Found on the surface at the base of a shallow ravine among lots of fossil palm wood, shale outcroppings, and some volcanic(?) glass. Northern Walker co, Georgia, USA. Pictures are as follows... 1) “Right” side 2) “Left” side 3) “Top” 4) “Bottom” with “mouth” facing left 5) “Back” side with “top” at the top of photo 6) “Underside” with “mouth” at bottom left of photo 7) The location behind my driveway that keeps vomiting out fishy bits and petrified wood!

PDF request (paper about Danian crocodylian material from Sweden)
The Amateur Paleontologist posted a topic in Questions & Answers
Hey I was hoping someone could help me find a PDF copy of a relatively old paper... Troedsson, G.T. (1924). On Crocodilian Remains from the Danian of Sweden. Lunds Universitets Årsskrift, Ny följd. Avdeling 2, 20, 1–75. Part of it contains the description of a very well-preserved skull of Thoracosaurus "scanicus", which would be very relevant for a research paper I'm working on right now. Thanks in advance! -Christian-
