Saw this listing for sale and considering buying it, looks like a partial cave bear skull, could anyone verify? Also there are strange marks on it, which the seller believes to be scavenger marks, want other opinions on those. It was found in a Hungarian Cave deposit.

Good day. Recently got this mystery specimen from the owners of an extremely productive and well-known ranch in Powder River Country, Montana (please see photos). The specimen was found by the owner. Unfortunately, this specimen is not like those. Here's the only additional info: "This large piece of skull [?] was found in one piece. Weighs approximately 4 lb. 3 oz. The measurements are L 7 2/10" W 4 3/4" No repairs. Color is various shades of brown. Some of the openings actually have some matrix in them, but I left that, in order to stabilize the thin walls." I know it's particularly hard to ID a piece like this from photos, but if you have any ideas, I'd deeply appreciate them!

Hello together, its been some time since I posted a model, and there are quite a few unfinished ones in the making. realizing how small Atopodentatus' iconic head was in relation to its body, I decided to rather try and print a lifesize skull than a complete downscaled skeleton. Morphing recent species' skulls has the advantage that you get anatomically looking detail, although on the other hand it is wrong detail. So I would much appreciate feedback when you spot something particularly wrong. @pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon? And Atopodentatus took some morphing. Here is how far I got: Best Regards, J

Hello, I am new to this community and fossils/bone identification in general. Hope you can help me with identifying a part of the skull I recently found (or at least I think it is a part of the skull). I found the bone recently (May 2022) close to a beach in Malmö, Sweden while cleaning up the beach with my colleagues. I would like to make a nice display stand for it, and I'd like to have something other than "Unknown Species" on a tag. I suspect what I see here are the eyeholes and the nose on a skull bone. First I thought it was a bird of some kind, or some other reptile. But looking at skull pictures online, I cannot recognize anything. Maybe a fish, since it was found close to the beach? I suspect it's impossible to find out the exact species, but at least the genus or the family would be nice. Cheers, Nikola

Hi guys.....what do you think this is..old camel type, herbivore dino ???....piecing a broken mass of rock together..there are a few things in it..think I have back piece of jaw...maybe more. What you see is about 13 inches long ..the back side is more flattened and still in matrix....can t see teeth yet...thanks T unknown2

I found this skull in our field next to our house last week. It was being pushed up from the ground. The photo shows the front R side of the face w/ clear jawline, R eye socket & R side of a crest. I would like ID help, please. We are 1/2 hour south of the WI border. It was near a fossilized, partially opened egg & the limestone-encrusted skull of a juvenile lizard, among other fossils. There are volcanic rocks nearby & we believe that the interstate Rock River was considerably larger, covering our property & bringing those things south to IL.

Hello! I'm a new member with a question. I hope it's ok for me to ask this question and I hope it's according to all the rules I've been a fan of the forum for a while, but just mainly browsed a bit, but now I've got a bit of a problem... I'm basically a giant newbie when it comes to this, so please treat me like one (I hope you don't mind). So I've always had a very big fascination for the woolly rhinoceros. It's been a dream for me to own a rhino skull one day, so I had an opportunity recently and decided to go for it. I bought a damaged skull, originally from russia, which still looked pretty good. It had a few tooth left, the underside was a bit busted up, but the top and one side still looked spectacular. The price seemed very doable as well, for such a piece. A few weeks later it arrived and needless to say, I was pretty bummed to see that the front had broken off, the three remaining teeth were loose and the underside was a total mess. There's a few large cracks, that make the piece very delicate to transport... So... There's a few things I'd like to do, but I really haven't a clue where to start (I know, you might call me foolish, but the skull is in far worse shape then before it got shipped). - I'd like to re-attach the front nose piece (and maybe a few of the smaller pieces, but those really aren't a priority to me) - I'd like to fill/strenghten those large cracks - I'd maybe like to put those three teeth back in place That's about it, unless there's other stuff that needs to be done, that I don't know off. I never had any plans to really restore this piece. I actually like that it isn't complete, I though it had it's charm. But at the moment, it's just so fragile and sadly it's a bit in pieces :/ Also, don't mind the duct tape, it's all I had close to me when I unpacked haha. Sooo, I've got myself a little project here, but I'm looking forward to working on this. Any help would be extremely welcome. Again, please treat me like I know nothing on the subject. Many thanks! D

I' m a local photographer in Flagler Beach, FL. I frequent a local beach almost daily. I have come across quite an interesting find. Currently due to stormy weather causing rough waves and some higher than normal tides the rocks have been sliding down into the ocean and breaking apart. Well a wonderful treasure was exposed in one of the rocks. A skull. There is also a tooth and what looks to be bone vertebrate. I am in the process of excavating currently but would love to know who this skull belongs to. Any help is appreciated!!

Found this strange little chunk of bone about two weeks ago on the Brazos and have had zero luck trying to identify it on my own. Nothing seems like an exact match. The complex series of holes and tube-like structures on the one side makes me think ear bone, and the suture markings lining the edges of the bone on the back side make me think skull fragment. Similarly, the thin raised area makes me think zygomatic process. My best guess would be something like the temporal bone on the back of a bison or horse skull, but I haven't been able to find much to make me sure of that ID. @Harry Pristis - do you have any ideas or helpful diagrams?

Any ideas what type of bone piece this is? I am inclined to say it is a skull piece from a whale. It is heavy - seems too heavy to be a vert fragment. Found it in the Potomac near Stratford Hall and the Horsehead Cliffs. (VA/MD)

All that was on the label for this item was that it’s from the Permian age and from Texas. I don’t have any further info on it. Does anybody know what this is?

Hey all, I have another bone identification I need help with. I have these odd looking rodent skulls (I assume rodent because of the large incisors). I have seven of them total, the smallest being 2 inches (5cm) in length, and the largest being 4 inches (10 cm). All of them have that exposed sinus cavity and rounded orbital. Any idea what they could be? Best bet is a rabbit but I would like to be sure.

Found what seems like a partial skull and possibly an ear bone. Southeast Texas. Never found anything like this before, but the darker smaller segment reminded me of ear bone threads I have seen. The size and general shape of the darker 'ear bone' sent me in the mammoth direction, but I'm not confident in it.

This is the second of the two skull I cant ID. I am leaning toward canine of some sort. maybe? I assume this one is also from China considering the matrix still attached looks the same as the larger skull in my other topic. Any help is appreciated.

Hello all, I have a small baleen whale skull that I need to preserve. It was found on a beach and the sun had bleached it. After a short time it has started to flake, crack and sort of fall apart. It's very aged and porous, is there something I can coat it in to preserve it?
