I’m Located in Savannah, GA but take day trips to Summerville, SC often. We find very good teeth here in Savannah including Megs at our more secret islands on the banks. I usually go with my wife and son but I wanted to find better spots in Summerville to take my kid instead of taking the boat to the islands. Would anybody want to swap spots with me? I would take you on the boat to the islands we hunt from if I can get some inside where to go in summerville.

Hey everyone. I’m new to this forum and pretty new to hunting anywhere other than the beach, but I’ve been venturing out to Summerville and a few creeks in the West Ashley area. I’ve found pretty much nothing except for a broken meg tooth in a well known creek in Summerville. I’m not asking for anyone’s specific hunting spot, but does anyone have some insight on other areas besides the Sawmill Branch creek?

Found out at a land site in Summerville SC so not sure what layer it came from, but was found among Megs and angustidens and a few others. Was wondering if anyone had a better guess at what species of whale this came from, my Google researching didn't really pull up anything that looked terribly close.

Hi all, I realize it would be highly unusual, but could this be fossilized marrow inside this bone frag? I recovered this piece during a South Carolina River fossil dive.

Hello Forum, Found this river diving in South Carolina. Not sure what to make of it, looks like solid bone, like a dugong rib, except that its very small, only 4 inches. One end is broken, and solid, no marrow cavity. The other end terminates in a point, and where the pointy end is chipped, it looks like normal spongy looking bone structure. Any ideas what this may belong to?

I'm trying to get back into fossil hunting and hiking and could definitely use some pointers for great places to explore in the GA/SC/NC/TN area. Not quite sure what I'm looking at here, looks like a bone but there are serrations on either side, is this a tooth of some sort or just a fish bone? Found alongside small shark teeth of all varieties and dolphine/whale fossils.

Hi All, Happy New Year! I found this fairly beat-up tooth while river diving in South Carolina. Whats left of it is 2 1/2" long. It's too straight and skinny to be dolphin, right? Any Ideas?

Found this while sifting in a creek in Summerville SC and it resembles a tooth as far as I can tell. Definitely worn down and root broken off so ID is difficult, but it looks like a damaged whale tooth, but was wondering if that's an accurate guess.

This tooth was found in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It measures to about 1.5 inches. The shape of the tooth was interesting and unlike what I had seen previously, so I asked around and was told it was most likely a tooth from a Megalodon, however I remained skeptical due to its size. I would like to know what animal this tooth came from. Thank you in advance.

While looking for washed up shark teeth on the beach I stumbled upon this unusual tooth. I had no idea what it was from, so I googled around and nothing came up. It isn't very large. The object measures in at about 1 inch. It has very small serrations that run along it. It was found in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Has anyone been fossil hunting at, in or on Little River, SC? If so, where is a place to hunt that is legal and not on private property? I've never hunted a river before and don't know how to go about it. Any suggestions welcome. Or if anyone knows other rivers near North Myrtle Beach to hunt? Thanks!

I’m just an outdoorsman that picks up things when I think they’re neat or different looking. That being said, I found this thing several years ago, wondered over it a while, and then stuck it in a box. Saw it again tonight and got to doing a little research on what it might be and the closest match I came up with was a dinosaur tooth. So I’m asking if that is indeed what it is, or if it’s just a very toothy looking rock of some sort? Either way, I think it’s pretty interesting and would appreciate any best guesses or insight as to what it is. I found it in a wash, maybe 10-15 feet below the surrounding terrain. As best I can remember it was just laying there with some other rocks, a shard of native pottery, and some rusty thing I never identified. This is in upstate South Carolina, Abbeville County, USA. If any further info would help I would be glad to provide it. Just not sure what is needed, even after reading several of the “before you post” threads. But here goes...

Hi, I’m new to this site and currently trying to get some of my different fossils identified, for I do not know too much about them. Here are two shark teeth that I can’t ID. At first I thought the larger one was a megalodon tooth but after more research I am uncertain. I found the larger one on folly beach, SC, and the smaller one in a Summerville ditch. Thanks!

Today I went for my first "serious" (ahum) shark teeth hunt. Over the last few weeks I was keeping my eyes open while walking the beaches of Sullivans Island and Isle of Palms with my wife, but today it was "game on". Left the house at 8:00AM and drove to Folly Beach as I had been reading that of the beaches closes to me that was the best to look for teeth. Weather was nasty, cold and windy. Tide was still high but outgoing. Hardly anybody on the beach. Spent approximately 3 hours without finding anything. I was mainly looking in the accumulations of shells, seaweed, rocks, pottery higher up the beach. Saw one person picking up things at the waterline and decided to ask her what/how she was doing. We had a friendly conversation. I explained that it was my first time. She showed me a handful of small teeth that she found by looking for them as the shallow waves are rolling ashore. I decided that, as I had nothing to lose, to follow her method/advice and started to look close to the waterline as well. I do not think that more than 5 minutes passed before I found MY FIRST TOOTH EVER !! I know that compared with what others here report it is not much, but for me it meant that I had succeeded in my quest. Shortly after, I found a second one, but at that point the nasty conditions were taking their toll and I decided to call it a day. I will be back.

Hello everyone! I found this forum a few weeks ago, but just joined now. I work in a science museum, my background is Physics, but I've become a curator recently. I teach summer camps on geology, paleontology, astronomy, chemistry, and more. When our previous director retired he didn't pass down his knowledge of the items we have. Many were unlabeled, a few misidentified. So over the last year I've started really going through our collections in detail. We have thousands of artifacts, many duplicates, so it's been a long road. Eventually I plan on having everything identified, labelled, and researched so we can actually share information about our fabulous collection. Nothing like the rush of new information when you figure out what something is! -
Hi, just found this forum. I am completely new to this. Seen quite a few folks in my area with nice shark teeth finds and started recently to look for the during walks on the beaches of Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms close to our house. Was (am) getting frustrated as I have not found a single one yet . Hence, my quest for information on "how to" and as a result ended up with links to this forum. I have always been fascinated by fossils and historic finds of all nature and would like to dive deeper (no pun intended) into it. I have a bay boat and am able to get to get to places in creeks, rivers, and remote beaches where others may not be able to get to. I have already read some good suggestions and will hopefully soon be able to post my first finds.
