Here's a sweet Brachiopod I found yesterday, it's quite interesting and I've only found one other like it, I am unfamiliar with the specific species but I am very interested if anyone could tell me more about it!

Hi! I opened up this small concretion this morning. It looks like there is something inside, but I just can't make it out and I guess it could be anything really. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable people can see something. Was found in an area where I have found an ovulate scale. The concretion is blackish while the matrix it was in is a light Grey.

Hello everyone, I've had a lifelong passion for fossils but I'm a relative newbie to collecting, having only done it for the last 3 years. Most of my previous fossil-collecting trips were in NC, where you find sharks teeth and shells by sifting through creeks or looking through mine deposits. I know very little about how people do it out west, which has turned out to be a big problem. On a recent vacation to Colorado, I looked around Florissant Fossil Beds and also ordered a shipment of fossils from the quarry. The shipments arrived about a week ago, and there's some pretty interesting imprints on the surface some of the rocks, namely possible Sequoia and Cedrelospermum, as well as another rounded leaf. I got an X-Acto 1 knife and started splitting yesterday. The problem is, even though I'm trying to follow the instructions of the sheet sent with the fossils, I haven't found many fossils, and worse yet I've accidentally lopped off the tops of the sequoia and Cedrelospermum leaves (it's nothing a little superglue can't fix, but still). The remaining parts of the leaves are also in a very precarious position: they are on very thin layers and I can't continue splitting the shale without possibly causing damage to them. I'll share pictures later. People who've successfully found fossils at Florissant, what are your secrets to finding things and not causing damage to fossils that are in the same rock that you're splitting?

I have a few nodules that haven't split from my Mazon Creek trip in early March. They have been through I'd guess 20-30 freeze-thaw cycles by now. I have been getting impatient, so I decided to whack them with a hammer and chisel. I've smacked each of them like a dozen times, but they still won't split. It's not obvious where the bedding plane (?) might lie, so I've struck them from all sides to no avail. Is this an indication that there is nothing inside, and therefore no bedding plane?

I have just spent the last 30 mins chipping away at this nodule. I wasn't actually sure if there was something inside, so the first sign of it was very exciting. When i finally split the rock in half it was very satisfying.

I was a bit curious about how they split ammonites, I first had a theory they might pour some sort of resin into it, partly to be able to split it aswell as preservation, before they use a thin saw to split it, then they make it shiny and nice, but I figured that might not work, so maybe anyone here knows
