Launch my kayak early this morning and got to the beach a little before sunrise. Hoping off my kayak I took maybe five steps and BOOM my find of the year! A 2 3/4” Squalodon! The sun hadn’t even created the water yet, I couldn’t believe it. I continued on only about 40 feet away from my kayak and I spotted a pretty little Meg tumbling in the wash. By the end of my walk I had found the normal array of teeth with a stunning Hastalis and nice Hemi and dolphin teeth to round out the trip. I’ve had some pretty good hunts this season but this is hands down my best!… So far…. PS: Squalodon whitm

Hi guys, not too sure how reliable the provenance on this is but it’s supposedly from cadzand, Netherlands, I got it in a lot of dolphin tooth, but the serration reminded me of squalodon which it obviously isnt but I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas

Hi All, Today I went fossil hunting (Neogene sediments in Belgium). Found some pretty nice shark teeth and 2 Squalodon sp. teeth (one with crown only and one with crown and root). Also some Carcharodon hastalis (Agassiz, 1843) and two tiger shark teeth. For the rest smaller shark teeth, a partial shark vertebrae and Notorynchus sp. teeth. Found 1 special tooth and thought it could be a Parotodus benedeni (Le Hon, 1871). Thick root and crown. Quite big (3.5-3.6 cm). Very curved.

Hi Everyone, looking for confirmation if this is a Squalodon tooth. It’s only half the tooth with very little root. It was found in a stream with Miocene exposures. Thanks, John

Made my first fossil hunting trip to South Carolina, went to some areas around Summerville, thought I’d share pics of some of the fossils I collected! The best finds were some echovenator-like teeth, Angies, great whites, some intact sections of dugong ribs, and several associated pieces of a sea turtle shell. Felt like Indiana Jones exploring all the creeks trying to find productive spots haha. Fun trip, hope to return in the future!

Squalodon tooth from the Portuguese Miocene -
Looking to purchase the tooth, seller has it listed as odontocete but I believe it is squalodon. If it is squalo I will definetly be buying immediately. Also figured that it would be a good thumbnail when people search squalodon on the forum as you dont see them very often. Thanks all

I found this tooth today at my usual spot at in Summerville SC and I found this tooth amongst the sharks teeth that was very strange to me. The most similar thing online I’ve seen to it is squalodon due to the wrinkly enamel, accessory cusps, and two roots. However, they seem to be extremely rare or nonexistent in this region. I would love to hear any thoughts or opinions on the ID of this tooth. Thank you on advance!

I have a dozen teeth from Aurora, North Carolina that I believe to be from the toothed whale Squalodon. Instead of uploading photos of that many, I'm uploading a few that are representative of the dozen and detailed photographs of three of these. For context, the first tooth here is 2.5" long and 1" wide at its thickest.

Hi everyone, I was looking online to see if definitive remains of Squalodon have been found in sediments from the Lee Creek mine in Aurora. What I found from older posts on the forum is that similar looking teeth have been found but belong to different toothed whale species. Also fossilguy.com shows several teeth which are labeled as Squalodon. I was interested in learning more about this as a Squalodon tooth is definitely on my bucket list and I plan on revisiting the spoil piles at Aurora within the next few years.

Hey y'all - we finally re-named "Squalodon" tiedemani, now known as Ankylorhiza tiedemani - a large macropredatory killer whale like dolphin with some implications for the early feeding ecology of odontocetes (toothed/echolocating whales) and convergent evolution of swimming in baleen whales (mysticetes) and odontocetes after their split some ~35-36 million years ago. Found in a land spot not too far from North Charleston. Only chunks but I’m still happy with them. Wondering if this is a meg tooth or another shark, also wondering if it’s possible age based on size. Serration on the side.

Hi everyone, I just found this tooth last week at Brownies Beach. First I thought it was a broken mako, but the serrations in the edges and the fact that the tooth is hollow at the base, makes me think that in fact,this is a tooth from a Squalodon. Thanks for your answers

Hi all, I found some interesting specimens from the Isle of Sheppey. Any ideas about what they could be? Probably around 50 million years old, Eocene. From the London Clay. My guesses are: Top: Initially thought it was a fish fang, but I'm starting to doubt it because the "tooth" seems to be the same material as the "jaw". Middle: Squalodon tooth? Bottom: A small animal's ulna? Thanks in advance. Jay

Hi, This tooth was found at Bayfront Park/Brownies Beach, which is Calvert Formation (~18-22 MYA). It is clearly from an odontocete, but it is unlike any other I've found from this location, or anywhere for that matter. The crown is not perfectly conical, instead having a rather wide appearance. But what really makes this tooth so odd is the root. It is flattened and bumpy, while most odontocete teeth have long, smooth roots like those of human teeth (this obviously makes sense, as they are both mammals). The fossil is about 3/4" from the tip of the crown to the bottom of the root.

I found this tooth today at Calvert Cliffs, it was found along with a partial skeleton (5 verts, rib bones, a pelvis, ect). They are all from the same animal for certain as they were all discovered close together in matrix. The tooth looks like a mosasaur to me, but everything here is Miocene (Calvert cliffs). What could this creature be?

As request by WhodamanHD, here is a post of my recent sperm whale tooth find from Brownies Beach over the weekend and some other cetacean teeth. I also included a very cool red squalodon tooth I found at Stratford hall along with another tooth which I believe is also Squalodon. I like how the Squalodon tooth is split in half, I wouldn't have found it if I didn't notice what looked like a root of a tooth underwater. I also included a cool dolphin vertebrae I found at Stratford Hall

I put a low bid on this not thinking I would win? Then I did so I want to make sure this is what I think it is. It was labeled as squalodon, is this true? Should be here soon, until then here are the sellers photos, it’s from lee creek mine, Aurora, NC. Remember a fossil hunting friend of mine looked for one for many decades till he finally found one last year and was ecstatic. So o thought they were rare, but with the price I payed I’m starting to doubt that. I’m going to save y’all the trouble of calling @Boesse to the thread and do it myself.

So I believe we have finally rounded the summer corner the water was clear and calm. I waded for 4 miles round trip i found a bunch of small teeth and the tripmaker. I found a shaweeet meg and my first ever partial squaladon jawbone!!! All in all not a bad afternooon!

Despite the forecast for possible thunderstorms, my son and I went back to our favorite Calvert formation Miocene site. There hadn't been much rain or erosion, so we had to look closely for small pieces of things sticking out of the cliff. Here are a few of the finds: Almost didn't bother with the porpoise rib bone, but after collecting it I noticed some nice predation marks in the middle and the end, which looks bitten off. The small bone I assume is bird (Auspex, what do you think?). For the highlight of this trip, see the next post.

So I doodled on down to Aurora on Friday (8/31/12). My parents had come to visit and since I'm always yammering about fossils I decided to show them what it was all about. They loved it. My mom's first outting produced a Carcharocles angustidens tooth with the corner broken off, a nice lil modern mako and a cow shark lower (Notorrhynchus primigenius). I found my first dolphin tooth, first squalodon tooth and a nice modern tiger. In all reality, I think I had a hemipristis magnet on me! LOL! My dad did well.
