Stromatoporids, other sponges, or not a fossil? Thanks!
SilurianSalamander posted a topic in Fossil ID
All collected in gravel and beach rocks from SW Wisconsin. Thanks so much for the help! I love this community:) -
These coral(?) fossils are found in Kansas, South of Fort Scott in the Fort Scott formation Pennsylvanian limestone. Some are found in matrix and some on top of the fomation. My thoughts are that the main structure is a type of tetradium (coral or red algae?) since the radiating tubuals are four sided. The photo showing the surface has another fossil attached to it. These are small bunches attached to the tetradium(?) that have 5 sided tubuals. Neither of these are listed in the KS geology ID pages.
