This is a spinosaur claw that in auction in a web where an expert puts an estimated value in things. The expert is giving a waaaay waaay lower valuation that you would expect for this and the description really doesn't say anything about if it's a composite, super repared, etc. It just says that it's natural. What do you thing the deal is with this claw? Has something real in it but has tons of reparations?

Fossil Seahorse Fake or Heavily Doctored?
Flashlight posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Extremely skeptical of this piece. No information from seller available other than a “seahorse” label that has since been torn off. Looks super fake to me and the research I was able to comb through on my own makes me even more suspicious, but my fossil journey has only just begun and figured I’d leave the collection purging to the experts. Not sure if entirely fake or simply heavily doctored.- 6 replies

Hello, I saw this for sale, now, am I right that this is not an Iguanodon jaw as it is being sold as? I had a compare of Iguanodon jaws and they tend to have the tooth ... holes? slots? Down the side with lots of little splitter teeth going through. Whereas this one seems like it has actual tooth sockets. So, am I right to be suspicious and that this is in fact a crocodile? Or am I wrong and it is an Iguanodon jaw? It is 5 inches long, broken and repaired. Found on Isle of Wight. Thanks

Very 3d Cambropallas for real?
prem posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I was perusing our favorite auction site and saw two specimens of purported Cambropallas that look exceedingly different than the usual squished-in-a-shale-nodule sort of bugs that traditionally are found for sale (and faked with reckless abandon). These look more like a Cambrian form of the Moroccan Devonian bugs - preserved in limestone in inflated, 3-dimensional form, complete with axial spines toward the rear. If you search for: "Cambropallas sp. telesto Flying Free" you will see more pictures of these highly suspicious items than the ones I attached. I am deeply suspicious of these, although the particular vendor has not posted anything that I could point to being an outright fabrication before. Thoughts? ---Prem- 10 replies
