    Jurassic Gastropod?

Hi again Is this a (Jurassic) Gastropod? If yes, is it closer determinable? It was found near Herznach in Switzerland.
  2. Hey folks, so I got a package with some various fossils I want to determine now. They were found between Herznach and Hornussen in Switzerland, so supposed to be Jurassic (Middle Jurassic). Following I have some belemnites. From left to right: 1-2: maybe hibolites and belemnopsis? 3: no idea 4-6: are these even belemnites??! 7: no idea what this is Thanks in advance!

    Visiting the Messel Pit

Hi All, The family and I are heading to Europe next year, and as part of the trip we will be in Frankfurt and will visit the Senckenberg (I went 3 years ago and fully geeked out!). While there we are planning a trip to the Messel Pit. If anyone has any tips to get the most of the visit to the Pit, or any other sites near Frankfurt that are worth visiting then I'd love to hear about them. We will also be going to Innsbruck and Basel (Switzerland), so if anyone knows of any good locations to visit then I'd also love to hear about them. Also, it would probably be good to know about the laws regarding fossils, etc, in these countries - so if anyone knows I'd really appreciate it. Brett.

    Eosemionotus ceresiensis Bürgin 2004

The Prosanto Fm. is a (Furrer et al. 1985) " Small lagoonal basin [pool] in the intertidal platform of the Vallatscha Fm. with anoxic bottom waters. Agitated surface waters deposit tempestite layers as well as mud, which forms very regular drapes." Taxonomy from Bürgin 2004. Diagnosis (Bürgin 2004, p, 242): "A fusiform species of the genus tEosemionotus with a broad gill-cover, being one and a half times deeper than wide. Supratemporal commissure not continuous. Fringing fulcra on dorsal and anal fin minute. Twenty-seven or 28 vertical scale rows and 12-14 single scales in the row in front of dorsal fin. Flank scales moderately deepened and with a smooth posterior margin." Line drawing from Bürgin 2004, p. 246: Identified by oilshale using Bürgin 2004. References: T. Buergin et al. Ammonite fragments ID

Hi everyone! Today I went hiking with my friend at 3000m+, The location I went hiking in is very near a place where I heard you can find ammonites and belemnites. I pulled this rock out of a boulder with many layers of slate in and found a partial piece of an ammonite. I was wondering if anyone out there can recognise the specie and the period? I found it in Switzerland, near a Glacier called « Plaine Morte » The first 2 pictures is the one I found and the second 2 is the one my friend gave to me (which he had found less than a km away from that location) Any help would be welcome Thanks so much! (Tell me if you need more pics)

    Fossils from Pilatus mountain

Dear TFF members, I have just returned from the trip to Austria and Swizterland and I need help in identifying the ones I found on the top of Pilatus mountain. From what I've read, Pilatus is made of Cretaceous rocks. To me they look like some sort of microfossils - I'm afraid I cannot take any more detailed photos with my camera, but I hope someone here will be able to make out what it is anyway
  9. Hello everyone, If there is one of you a collector of brachiopods. I have some brachiopods to exchange (see photos below). Precise fossil finds are provided with the shipments. I still have some other fossils to exchange. I'll put the pictures later. I am mainly looking for brachiopods from any time and the whole geographical area. Please pay attention to postal charges for international shipments. Although for few parcels it is not too high. We must keep in mind. That I live in Switzerland. If you are interested in letting me know. Best regards. Here is the list: Dictyothyropsis runcinata, Middle Oxfordian, Canton Aargau, Switzerland Argovithyris biremsdorfensis, Middle Oxfordian, Canton Aargau, Switzerland Zittelina orbis, Middle Oxfordian, Canton Aargau, Switzerland Digonella divionensis, Lower Callovian, Department of Côte-d'Or, France ( To finish cleaning) Musculina sanctaecrucis, Hauterivien, Canton Neuchâtel, Switzerland

Is this a fossil, and if so of what?

I found this in Jura, Switzerland, near Courtedoux, about a kilometre from one of the sites where dinosaur tracks were discovered in 2002 (https://www.myswitzerland.com/en-us/dinosaur-traces-courtedoux.html). I was wondering whether it was a fossil of something, and if so of what?

    Crocodile tooth (?)

From the album: Fossils from Switzerland

A damaged 1.3 cm long tooth. Its the only tooth I have from the "Birmenstorf-Member" from Holderbank, which is not a shark tooth. I think that its a croc tooth but I am not sure.

    Sphenodus longidens

From the album: Fossils from Switzerland

The biggest and the nicest Sphenodus longidens tooth I found in the quarry "Schümel" near Holderbank (Switzerland). Teeth are rare there and you need good eyes to find some.. The tooth is 3.6 cm long and comes from the "Birmenstorf-Member" (about 150 million years old). Another image:

  20. Hello to all fellow fossil enthusiasts, great to meet you! I am a long time reader and now would like to join this great community. As a kid I have been collecting fossils (ammonites & belemnites) in the Jura Mountains of Switzerland. Additionally, I very recently started to collect dinosaur fossils which I buy from fellow fossil hunters/preparators/collectors. It's kind of an expensive hobby and I get a lot of eye-rolling from my wife. However, the fossils put a big smile on my face every time I see them. :-) Thank you for having me here. Felix
  21. Last month i visited many fossil museums "in my area". The weather was too bad to collect myself and as you may know the quarry Kromer is closed during winter So i will show you some pictures of the fossils in the Museum of natural history in Basel (Switzerland) ... There you are also other nice exhibits besides of the fossils ! Its a great and detailed museum ! Doesnt look bad or ? When i saw this i got homesickness A great fish (Dapedium) from Holzmaden: Huge Invertebrates collection:

    Name the trilobite

I recently bought this trilobite fossil at a christmas market in Zurich. Could anyone name it fully, order and maybe time period? I'm just a curious amateur btw.

  25. Dear All, please let me start my very first post with Sir Ernest Shackleton´s "pseudo real" ad from London newspaper The Times: “Ah, when ships were made of wood and men were made of steel…” I am looking for an experienced fossil hunter to join an adventure in the Swiss Geneva Region or neighbouring France, Jura... I have literally zero experince, but willing to learn new things. No equipment but I would love to invest in a small hammer and a chisel for a reasonable price... by the way thank you for the warm welcomes. Looking forward to hear from you... All comments, ideas and suggetions are welcome... With kind regards Phileas Fogg Ps: I was tinking to open a topic on movies/documentaries about fossils... where do i post it? in the general discussions?
