Hello from Kansas. I'm getting back into fossils now that I have a dino-crazy 3 yo. We make regular trips to museums to look at the fossils and my wife reminded me that we should have fossils here in Kansas. It's amazing what we've found on our first few adventures. Looking forward to many more and learning more from the group (as well as admiring all of their finds).

Perfectly round pyrite ? *Solved: pyrite/marcusite disks*
JBkansas posted a topic in Rocks & Minerals
While on adventures near the Kansas river, found a large rock with extensive ?pyrite deposits ranging from irregular to perfectly round (largest round formation was just over a centimeter). One face of the rock (around a square meter) had extensive surface deposits and adjacent to the round structures were veins of pyrite. I thought the round structures could be pyritized fossils of some sort but it's also possible I'm just looking too hard. largest "fossil" Lots of smaller forms, some irregular, some round Surface pyrite with rust Vein Smaller fragment found adjacent to the large rock.- 10 replies
