Found this in a washed out ditch. I have someone suggest that this might be a stigmaria, lepidodendron species. Would like to confirm ID. Thanks

Raising and propagating plants and trees (mostly succulent plants) have been my hobby for a while but growing and raising bonsai trees are one of my most recent hobby! I started last summer 2019 but I totally failed, all of my ginkgo cuttings died. Probably got too hot in the summer and dried out... This time I am doing it earlier while it's cool and wetter and I hope I will get at least few of the ginkgo cuttings to root. These cuttings came from my nearly mature ginkgo tree that I had for about 20 years. I am thinking about expanding to other tree species but I am not sure what yet. Please show us your bonsai trees!

Hello all! I am a new member, and this is my first post. Could I please have some help figuring out if these rocks are petrified wood? Most of them were found in a small Pennsylvanian stream. It looks like they are quartz, crystal quartz, but I am no expert. There should be about two pictures of each rock. Thanks for your help, and I have more pictures of different rocks if needed.

Found this rock today hiking with the kids. Never really been much into fossils but man this was interesting. Started thinking about how old it might be and if there's anything else that I'm not seeing due to my lack of knowledge. Came across this site so thought I would post it . Found in Niagara Bruce Trail in Ontario Canada...Rock was probably 14"-16 by 10" by 8" deep.

Here's my part II. All pieces found on gravel bars in Kansas City. Close up and end-shots of a few provided as well. Fair to say all likely Pennsylvanian? Appreciate the feedback again! Bone

This past weekend I was able to enjoy a rare February day of sunshine and temperatures above 50-degrees F (10-degrees C) in a vast expanse of public land owned by the U.S. government and in care of the Bureau of Land Management located in northwestern New Mexico. The area where I ventured is Upper Cretaceous though I am not sure of any period beyond that general age. Of the fossil related items I ran across, the first two photos show some petrified wood from a ground level stump. I noted some unfamiliar calcite patterns that were vaguely diamond shaped. The second photo shows an outline of these patterns and my rock hammer is there as an 11-inch (28-centimeter) scale. A friend of mine who knows considerably more than I do about fossilized plant life informed me this was once a cypress tree. The next two photographs shows a large surprise sticking out from under a mound of soil. Since this was BLM land, the bone remains in situ since collection is verboten. I have no further information on the bone. As a late addition while I can still edit this post, I can't believe I forgot about the petrified palm wood I found. I got it cut up and have attached a photo of it here. One thing that was pretty cool about the palm wood, and hopefully it is visible if you enlarge the photo, is that the vascular bundles (the dots you see all over the wood) due to compression of the wood prior to fossilization aren't really round but have been distorted and shaped like half-moons. This is commonly seen in other specimens collected in my area of the country and I'm sure elsewhere.

Found this piece of sandstone in Sullivan Co., PA. It comes from either the Huntley Mtn. Fm. (Mississippian/Devonian) or the Burgoon Ss. (Mississippian). What could have made these concentric rings? They go through the rock perpendicular to bedding. It's odd that the center is mostly round but further out is more square. Could it be a tree fossil? That is the only thing I can think of.

Good morning, I hope all is well with you and thank you for having a look at this post and the pictures I will be uploading. Obviously my hope is to figure out what this is. About 10 years ago I found this in the Eifel National Park here in Germany. I posted two pictures to give indication. It was found literally "in the woods." I was walking through the forest, rather far off from any path, and found this. In my opinion rather heavy for its sizes. It weighs about 6.5 Kg (about 14 pounds) I have always called it “the tree rock” and pick it up now and again, look at it, scratch my head and put it back on the landing where it sits and collects dust and dog hairs. The first six pictures are the perspectives. I numbered them 01 to 06. I guess the pictures give the description, but I feel inclined to comment on Picture no. five and six: No. 5: 1. this is the main reason I feel this may be a tree or some sort of wood fossil 2. It reminds me very much of an end of a rotted branch or tree stump. No. 6: 1. This side is noticeably different. 2. It is a bit blackened and rounded (convex if you will, but the radius is only in one direction as far as I can tell) 3 .The black does not rub off. 4. There are a few small holes that sort of remind me of escaping gas bubbles in a way. 5. ADD TO POST: This event got me riled up a bit.... While I was looking at the post I suddenly had the desire to hold a magnet on this side and the magnet holds, but only to this side where the black is!! I find that to be rather interesting to be honest. Assume that there is iron / Fe or something that contains that. The pictures after the first six are not sorted in any particular order, but to help with discussion or comments I lettered them. I also posted two pictures of the area where I found this. Basically in the Eifel National Park, which is near to Belgium and the Netherlands. Thank you in advance for your help and comments. :-) Have a good day because, who knows what tomorrow will bring?
