From the album: SquamatesA tooth from a large mosasaur that inhabited the Western Interior Seaway during the Late Cretaceous. Tylosaurus was an apex predator with thick teeth that allowed it to predate on anything in its ecosystem from large turtles to sharks. This particular tooth has clear feeding wear on the tip.
DD1991 posted a topic in Questions & AnswersI'm familiar with five known groups of mosasaurs: tethysaurines, yaguarasaurines, tylosaurines, mosasaurines, and plioplatecarpines. However, all those groups of mosasaurs look superficially similar to each other with very little variation in the postcranial region. Is there any features that would distinguish tylosaurines, plioplatecarpines, mosasaurines, tethysaurines, and yaguarasaurines from each other?
