I went down to westmoreland state park today, and I found these 4 these, the smallest one looks like a small bull shark tooth and the other 2 look like some hammerhead. The biggest one is something I’ve never seen before. It is still serrated and is sharp, I found it on fossil beach and the other 3 on the main beach. Please help as I don’t think I am right. Thank you!

Going through some rocks collected in one of the triassic basins of the Newark supergroup in Virginia, and this popped out. Length is 5/8 inch, width is 1/8 inch. It looks toothy to me… any ideas?

I'm just a random Geology student in Virginia that has far too much of an obsession with the Paleozoic Era – mostly on the latter half of it. I actually did join at the beginning of the month, but never really got around to posting this until now, so hello world, I suppose, I've been here all along.

Last weekend I went on a camping trip to Westmoreland State Park in Virginia, somewhere I had fossil hunted previously and found some cool bones like a dolphin vert. This time, I found several bones that I believe might be able to be identified. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. Thanks! All of the finds: A piece of whale bone, id'd through size: Rey Teeth: Continued in the next post due to upload issues

Hello all! I'm looking to do some more fossil hunting this summer and I would love to find a good spot for trilobites. I am in western Maryland, and am willing to travel up to 2 hours. Most of the sites I've searched so far have been largely dominated by brachiopods and crinoids (which are still cool), but I really would love to find other species. If anyone has a good site which has trilobites (or anything else super cool) please let me know!! Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! PS: I understand wanting to keep your spot secret, so if you don't want to post in this thread, don't hesitate to PM me!

I recently did some work for someone In the coal mining industry in Southwest Virginia/Appalachian Mtns.I noticed they had some fossils and they let me have some of them. Most of them were fossilized trees/fauna and such. But these right here stood out and was curious as to what they was. I'm no paleontologist but my impression it is some type of alligator. It was found near one of the coal mines on a mountain. There are a couple of other bones as well. I apologize if the quality of some of the pictures isn't the best, we're currently having lighting issues in my shop. Thank you for your time.

Good collecting localities in the fossil desert that is Virginia
Megalodoodle posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Virginia is my home state: which also happens to be the worst place to go collecting. Anybody have any good recommendations (there will be few I’m sure) for collecting near Charlottesville?- 6 replies
