Ankylosaur Tail Club Question
ThickHead808 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello, Im not sure this is the right place to put this but I came across this on a website that I've seen members say is reputable, if not overpriced. The thing I found interesting is that the site claims this ankylosaur tail club has a cutting edge, which is the straight side of the fossil in the pic. Is that a real thing? I've been following dinosaur news since I was a kid and I never heard of ankylosaur tail clubs having an axe-blade like this one, just the smashing club. Or if they do, which species has this? I wish I could afford this but for now I just have a head spike.- 9 replies

Hello all, hope everyone is doing well. Since taking up some interest, my wife and I thought it would be fun for me to join a club near Orlando. Does anyone have any good recommendations? With some research I've seen Florida fossil hunters and Tampa bay fossil club, with fossil hunters being the preferable choice due to distance. I appreciate any and all help

Sell says this is either a scute or partial club of Ankylosaurus. It's from the Hell Creek Formation in South Dakota. Seller says it was found with other scutes. Any way to ID this?

I'd like to get some opinions about the benefits of joining any of the paleo societies or groups that are around. More specifically, is there a benefit for a lay-person in joining? I understand that these offer networking opportunities for the professional, but would there be a benefit for ME as an enthusiast?

I am looking to start a North Florida Fossil Club, so we can share what we find in the area, meet to fossil hunt, and share experiences and knowledge.

Well the show is over and the displays have been judged. I won the President's Choice Award!!! Out of 30 display exhibits, due to the vast variety and educational presentation of labeling. I want to sencerly thank all the FF members that engaged in trades with me and made this collection display possible. I am sharing my congratulations with you. caldigger aka: Doren

Hi guys, I live in Perth, Australia and our local (and world class) Museum is being demolished in June for a 2020 rebuild. That's 4 years without a Museum. Where are folk gonna go to see fossils?? So I'm thinking of starting a local fossil club. I have time on the weekends. We have nothing like it here but I hear some of y'all are part of one. What is involved? I'm thinking of trying to get an educational grant to pay for a place for meetings, bus, food, etc. I'm imagining fortnightly meetings at a school gym (or something) to check out each others fossils and maybe do a little swapping. And monthly fossil hunting trips. I can drive a small bus and a mate can drive a big one. Maybe I'm being a little crazy. What y'all think?

I was at one of my tooth hunting sites on a slower day and happened upon a broken bone buried in the muck. I see a lot of this and did not think twice. But, as I passed it I noticed a groove so I Kicked it over and noticed a matching groove on the other side. Of course this got my curiosity up, and noticed more detail upon cleaning it off. What are your thoughts???
