Hello,
My name is Jay and I live in Columbus, Oh. I will be traveling to New Bern, NC next week to visit the Aurora Fossil Museum and attend the Aurora Fossil Festival. I have always wanted to visit Aurora, so what better time than during the festival. I'm, of course, planning on sifting through the piles at the museum, but was curious of other places in the area to hunt for fossils/shark teeth. After searching the forum, I was disappointed to read about the forum fossil trip to Belgrade Quarry being cancelled and that they would be closed to fossil collector's until the fall. Are there any other mines or quarries in the area that are open for collecting? I also read about many of the board member's trips to GMR, and I was considering to make the trip to Greenville. Any information on water conditions and easy access points (RickNC?) would be greatly appreciated. I do have an open water dive certification, but not advanced, so I would think the Atlantic is not an option. Also, I will be visiting with the wife a four year old son, so if anyone has suggestions on family activities, places to visit, restaurants, etc....to do while we are in town and I'm not neglecting the family looking for fossils. Thank you in advance for any information/suggestions you may provide.
