Hey all, Can anyone help me ID this fossil? It was found at an antique store with no information. Its density and coloration really reminds me of something from out west, like Hell Creek or Lance Creek. There's also a a semi-circle pattern of holes towards one end that reminds me of a crocodile's bite. Any thoughts on the possible ID or if its something besides a croc bite?
I'm looking for the collective experience of this group to help me determine if this is a bone fragment with a bit mark in it. Or is it just a rock. Here's several photos of the piece in question. Hopefully the quality is sufficient to make a determination.
Innocentx posted a topic in Fossil IDI found this last Friday. It's unusually large fossil for my area. It was found in creek gravel bar so is difficult to pin down formation. It may even have tumbled down from Permian which is only mile and a half upstream. It has what looks a bite mark across the side. The reverse of detailed side has been worn off.
Hello all. I recently obtained this big Lytoceras sp. from Belmont D'azerques (France) I don't think this is a bad fossil for 10 dollars. Now, when I looked better I saw a big scratch. Could this be a bite mark? The scratch is 5cm long and 1 cm wide. The ammonite is Toarcien in age. Greetings
