Bone found in Bolivar Peninsula, Texas .. about 2 miles down from Mcfaddin Beach. I have found many bones over the years in this area. Have identified some as possible bison? Teeth, leg bones, etc. I love finding these treasures and become somewhat obsessed with finding out, “what is this?” Any help much appreciated! Thanks!

We found this nice tooth on the Kaw River (Kansas) this past summer. Permian glacial material has been found there. When we found it, we assumed that it was from a camel. I’m not so sure anymore, as it has a stylid, and resembles a white tailed deer tooth we found, only much larger. Any ideas?

Hello, I was fossil hunting a creek in north Florida yesterday and along with finding what I believe is our first meg out of this creek, we found a strange tooth that I believe is bovine or camel. (This is in inches, I couldn't find my tape measure- 1 inch~2 1/2 cm)

Greetings, I found this bone on property where cattle used to feed and where bison were native to. This was found in the side bank of a washout and roughly 1 ft below surface grade. A friend went to track for it and it snapped upon grabbing it and the other portion is still buried. It is currently frozen so I am unable to dig further into the bank to reveal more of the bone. It appears to be fairly old and the inside is hollowed out. I was wondering if anyone may be able to identify it based on side and shape. Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Is this a cow, horse, or bison scapula? I live in an area where bison used to roam and know that on the same property, bison skulls and bones have been found. Please let me know your thoughts and reasoning on how it was identified. Thank you!

Thoughts on this stout metacarpal? Southern Minnesota gravel/river find. I only ask because farmers have run their cattle on the river in this area since I was a young man. This looks like bison to me though based on the proximal end and how stout it is.

Hey guys! I'm hoping someone can help me ID this bone? I found it a little while ago in a river close to me in south Florida. I feel like it’s something obvious like a gator or a bovine but I can’t get a definite answer and it always drives me nuts when I can’t ID a bone! I’ve found one or two others similar to this in the past.

"Coryphodon" but really fossil horse?
Chronos posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello! My message today is about the definition of a "find" accidentally seen in the Internet. They write about the teeth of the alleged Coryphodon originally from China. But isn't it a horse or bovine? Although, judging by the photo, there may be a fossil? Thank you for your opinions!- 7 replies

Anyone found a good article with data on femur size in bison. Or possibly even comaprasion acorss bison sub species. I found a large femur and am wondering if it is outside of the normal bison bison range. It is 47cm or about 18.5 inches in length.

Decided to take my kids fishing today at a creek we frequent sometimes. We were getting ready to start packing up and head home when I look down and see what I think is pretty colored rock partly buried in the ground in some sandy soil(I'm a rock hound, lol) Upon unearthing it i was surprised I had stumbled upon this pair of amazing fossilized teeth! The excitement is real and I've never found anything like this before! I have no idea what these are from but I'm sure sone kinda bovid. I'm also in South Arkansas btw if that helps any! Thanks!

found this tooth in the London Thames River. from what i have read it could be an old bison tooth and not a cow tooth. im hoping its a bison tooth. it surely feels like stone its heavy. but i am no expert. hoping somebody could tell me if it’s fossilised and which animal it comes from. some people say the isolated stylid on one side makes it look like a bison. somebody else said the great size of it could mean bison. thank you so much for your help.

Hello everyone. My husband and I found this today while combing the creek bed of the Escondido Creek located in Encinitas, California, USA. We believe it is a tooth. It looks quite old, however I am not sure whether it is fossilized. We are not fossil hunters or collectors, just everyday amateurs who stumbled upon this find. Any help identifying it would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

In addition to the possible orthocone fossil I found in the same creek, I found this mammal bone. I live about ten miles as the crow flies from Big Bone Lick State Park in Kentucky. I live on a cattle farm (have had horses on the farm before as well spanning at least 50 years). This bone struck me as looking quite old due to the coloration and the slight erosion on it. With me living on a cattle farm, I’m leaning towards it being some sort of bovid bone, but want to know your all’s opinion. Thanks!

I have spent more dollars on my pet bison than I have ever spent on fossil related tools. I’ve purchased: - A poster on bovine skull anatomy. I couldn’t find a decent free one online. - Butvar 76 - Paraloid B72 (auto correct kept wanting to “paranoid” LOL) - Cyanoacrylate (More of it. Ran out during extraction) - A couple books. One is on “consolidants, adhesives and coatings” in conservation. It is somewhat more technical than what I was expecting. Not beyond my comprehension, but definitely a more in-depth study kind of read. Its detailed chemistry of all the materials we hear about and use. Including those listed above. The Cow and Bison book by Finsley And now what every gal with a pet bison needs is: I’m definitely going to need this when I go trying to prep the skull.

So this is at Texas Tarrant County near a large pond. Not sure if the tooth is crocodile, fish, marine dinosaur or small mammel. The rock with circles on it I'm guessing is an imprint of a shell. And the other one I think is bone in Rock not sure if it's like a tooth if so I guess bovine or triceratops but I'm not sure if it's a recent bone or a bone from the dinosaur era (or if it's a bone at all). Also a general question of how do you know if something is a modern bone or dinosaur bone, I found some level surface and you can see the face of the bone, the rest is in the ground and it's near a pond. If anyone has answers to these questions that will be great. Excuse my lack of knowledge in these areas I'm new and I've just started with no current knowledge in dinosaurs.

I found this tooth on a sandbar on the Missouri River near St. Louis, MO. I did some research to identify and the information I find on the stylid isn't clear to me. Can anyone clearly identify what animal the tooth is from?
