Hi all, found this fossil, thought it was tree bark or sediment layers until i turned piece over. Looks to be a skin and soft tissue fossil, has small (approx 1mm) scale like bumps on front face, and what appears to be a meeting point to bones, possibly ribs on rear, with a distint layer between resembling a muscle layer. Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, B.Davies
I was reminded recently of a purchase I made back around the 1980s. A small museum had replica "dinosaur skin" for sale among a few other fossil replicas. It was very cheap, so I bought it. It was a square, about 2 inches wide x 2 inches high, made of plaster. This thing was awesome, it had so much detail in it. Still, something about it seemed familiar. About a decade and a half later, I was re-acquiring some of the old Aurora "Prehistoric Scenes" dinosaur model kits via eBay. It was when I got my hands on another copy of the Triceratops model that it hit me. SOMEONE HAD PULLED A MOLD OF THE SCULPTED SKIN PATTERN OFF THIS 1970s-VINTAGE MODEL KIT AND SOLD IT AS A REPLICA OF ACTUAL DINOSAUR SKIN. I wish I still had that plaster copy. It was kinda hilarious, in a way.
Hi everyone, I just wanted to share pictures of the stegosaurus vertebrae and dinosaur skin I just got in the mail. I'm still blown away by the fact that I can hold these in my hand. I only have my iPhone to take pictures, so I hope they come out ok. Thanks again, Erin
Hi, I collect rocks for fun and relaxation. I have a few that I would love to get opinions on. I contacted a very nice man at University and he said it looked to be fossilized algae. He also gave me the address to this website so I could learn more about fossils. I can use all the help I can get and look forward to your comments.
