Hello all. 👋 Looking for some advice. I have some hell creek fm dino bone I would like to clean up but it has spots of lichen and iron. I tested some hydrogen peroxide in a small area and it seemed to clean up the iron. My question is if it will react with the "bone" material. Maybe soak it in HP or even Iron Out? Been a while since I took chemistry so I'm not sure about the interactions. Also, what is the best way remove lichen? Thank you in advance.

Making your own hydrogen peroxide. Anyone have experience with this?
Raistlin posted a topic in Questions & Answers
As the title says I'm looking to make my own H2O2. It's expensive at least in the concentration I use (35%). Now before anyone says, yes, it can mess you up at that concentration. Always use the proper PPE. That said MIT has found an easy and portable way to make H2O2 using electricity (solar panels is what they used), water, and air. As I understand it they use the electricity to add an extra O2 molecule to the water to get the H2O2. The problem is I keep finding basically the same article but no blueprints. Anyone have access to that information or do I need to start learning hard core chemistry? Suggestions For Breaking Down Some Matrix Please!?
fossilized6s posted a topic in Micro-paleontology
I'm try to break down some hard micro matrix from the ATCO formation in TX. Its a rock solid clay, almost sandstone. Now there are some very tiny micros in this stuff and i don't want to cause any abrasion to them by just throwing them in a hydrogen peroxide solution. Do you guys suggest Muratic acid? Vinegar and baking soda? Or Hydrogen Peroxide? And what are some ratios you tend to work with? And how long do you soak them? Any and all help is appreciated by this micro noob!- 14 replies
