Hi, I'm Chris and I live in Southern California USA. Southern California has many locations that have fossils from various periods and especially marine fossils. I typically look for marine and occasionally terrestrial fossils from the Eocene, Oligocene, Miocene, Pliocene, and Pleistocene periods. The Los Padres Mountains and Santa Monica Mountains are where I usually go the most but I also look at coastal areas and the foothills. I like looking up old research papers on paleontology and seeing if I can retrace the author's steps to previously known fossil sites. I also post often to the Fossil Forum Facebook group. -Chris. p.s. I tried uploading to the Collection here but had no luck. As soon as I get to the mandatory drop down menu to select type of organism, it won't let me make a choice and then won't let me continue from there. Using Chrome so not sure what is going on.

Hi everyone, Today I decided to make an account for this forum after following the topics for some time. I live in Belgium so my limited number of findings are mostly pleistocene or neogene from the coastal regions. Looking forward to seeing a lot of interesting stuff on here!

Hello to all ! I've never been on a forum before so please excuse any ignorance of protocol, thanks in advance. I was recommended this from Rock Seekers because I have been interested in both rocks and fossils for most of my life. I'm a 64 year old retired RN that grew up living all over the place. My father was career military and also a Master Naturalist for the state of Mississippi, so we got to dig for stuff all over the world. Very lucky for me ! Fortunately, I get to go out west every year and dig in Wyoming, Idaho, South Dakota and Montana with my brother. I've attached a few pictures of some of my stuff, just finished moving so it's not all unpacked yet. Thanks for allowing me to join, I look forward to being on frequently. Hello! I’ve been browsing the forum for a while and wanted to thank you so much for kindly sharing your wonderful finds and knowledge - so I set up a proper account so I could actually do that. I’m in the Northern Highlands of Scotland (on the great Hugh Miller’s ‘patch’) and have only recently come to fossils via other ‘finding’ hobbies (mudlarking, rock hounding). I kept questioning if things I was finding (incidentally) were fossils, so thought I’d better educate myself. I deal with brain conditions and a brain injury, so please forgive any word muddling or other faux pas in my posts - I do my best to spot them, but they occasionally slip the net.

Hello, I have been fascinated with rocks and have studied their forms my own my whole life but have no formal training so I am looking here for some guidance on some of the things I see and find. I will be learning from seeing what is posted and discussed here. Most of my current knowledge centers around ancient rock tools so this is a new area for me. I found wht I believe to be a mineralized vertebrae yesterday in Delaware on the beach. It is dense (ie heavier than it appears to be) nothing else similar to it on the beaches as far as rock type or shape. Curious what, if anything, might be determined from a few photos of it here. Thanks for the opportunity to connect here. I'm looking forward to seeing what people have found. So much out there to learn and discover! - Liz

Hello, my name is Robert and I am an amateur collector, 71 yo. I live in midwestern llinois. In this area there used to be lots of old coal mines probably in the 1890s thru early 1960s. I have a nice collection of coal trees, from lepidodendron, sigillaria, calamites, etc. I have one piece that doesn't fit. The closest resemblance is the Archeaopteris which I don't know if there ever has been one find in Illinois. The outside piece of the wood is normal like modern trees. There is a stub branch that has a collar on it. If I can figure out how to send images I will try to send a pic. Robert

Hi everyone. I have mild interest in fossils, particularly in identifying them; which is where I may need help. I also hope to gain lots of info about fossils and perhaps geology. My name is Charlie and I live on the outskirts of Leeds. Regards to everyone.
