    Stromatolite fossil

Hello,my name is Jeff, and I live in Albuquerque New Mexico. I found an interesting rock & posted it to local Facebook group. Several people identified it as a Stromatolite. Can someone help identify? It is 4” tall, 7” long, 41/2” wide. Can’t say for sure weight, I guessing 2lb.

    New to the Forum

Hello everyone, my name is Gary Fulton. I am from Baton Rouge LA and enjoy fossil and mineral hunting while traveling and camping around the US. I try to get out as much as I can, but my job keeps me from my hobbies for some reason. I look forward to learning more about fossil prep and preservation, and help with proper identification. And of course always looking for a new location to enjoy the great outdoors and spend time hunting fossils.
  3. Hello! My name is Natalie and I am a new member living in Flagstaff, Arizona. I have always been interested in fossils and fossil hunting, but growing up on an isolated island in Alaska did not lend itself to many finds. The geology around Ketchikan, Alaska (the Southeast panhandle of Alaska) is very young. I know of a few ice age fossils found in caves, and some shells, but that is about it. I moved to Arizona years ago, but have just now gotten into rock hounding. And while rock hounding my partner and I have started to find some fossils as well! I am excited to learn from this website. And if there are other Arizonans who might like to organize fossil hunting trips, I would be interested in teaming up. I plan to post a few pictures of some unidentified fossils in the hopes that the experienced members here can help me out. Thank you! Natalie

    New member w/fossil fish

Hello fossil hunters, New guy with some prehistoric herring or something. Purchased in the 80's from some shopping mall science store that is no longer in existence. Just wondering if this is an easy ID as I think it might have been excavated hastily and maybe some fins, tails or details might be disrupted. I've tried to post up the biggest pic I can so I hope that makes IDing possible. Thanks

    Good Evening,

Long time lurker here, I've been collecting bits and pieces for as long as I can remember, but mainly fossils, minerals and the odd relic. Just recently got round to putting uniform labels on everything in my collection, I still haven't finished putting everything into my database and haven't managed to identify a substantial number of my fossils. I made this account months ago but forgot about it until I started labelling and identifying my stuff, so. here I am.

  7. Hi All, I'm new to the forum and have always been interested in fossils. My 6 year old daughter keeps asking about fossils and going fossil hunting in Beaumaris, a suburb of Melbourne. I'd love to do some hunting with her and wondering if anyone with experience goes down to Beaumaris to show us what to look for. Thanks so much. Asaf and Lexi

    Hello from Alberta

Hello everyone, As the title states, I'm from Alberta. I am currently a student at the University of Alberta, having recently completed my BA in Anthropology, and I am working on a degree in business. My BA brought me back into the world of fossils for the first time in a long time, creating with it an interest in the mammal fossil record. I look forward to showing off some of my collection with you all in the future. Thanks, Mat

    Hello From Tejas

Saying hello from central Texas. Have a degree in Geology graduated 76. Just moved permanently to Brownwood, Texas 2 years ago. I know don't ask me where the heck that is (exact center of Texas), what that it is close too (middle of nowhere!), or why in the heck we would move here (long story). Its not Brownsville either that is way down south on the coast. Retired now. Didn't get to spend anytime looking for fossils during my career. Would love to now. I am looking for some fossil hunting places in central and eastern Texas headed out tomorrow and later next week. Yes it is raining the two Penn places near town here are under water. Found some nice crinoid specimens there. Just got back from National Geographic expedition of Paleo Cave sites in the Pyrenees 2 weeks ago. Any Cretaceous locations anyone would like to divulge east of here toward Gatesville, Waco, Georgetown Triangle? Have full tank will travel. Thank you and howdy to all !
