I found this nice vertebra on a sand bar north of Jefferson City MO. The foramina and spinal canal are clearly visible but packed with debris. My ruler is in inches. Any idea what animal this one is from? Thanks!

Up to this point (over the last five years or so), all my local fossil hunting has been done in the Pennsylvanian of the Kansas City area. Recently, however, I visited a sand bar on the Kansas River some 20 miles West of Kansas City. I found one item of interest. I suspect that it may be modern, although I'm hoping, of course, that it is Pleistocene. Any ID help regarding age and animal will be welcome. I know it is quite worn, so I won't be surprised if "yep, it's a bone" is all that can be said. What do you think?

Hello all - I am new to this forum, and I hope that I provide you with the correct information - Please let me know if you need more. I found this today on a sand bar in Iowa; it caught my attention because it looks like a fossilized tooth. The rock part that represents the 'tooth' is different in color and texture than the part that represents the 'gum' area. Maybe it is just an odd looking rock, but I thought I would send it out to all of you experts to get your thoughts. Thank you to all! (this is such a neat site - I am glad that I found it; you are all SO knowledgeable)
