A Computer Science Graduation Project : Time sensitive - Responses required
Omar01 posted a topic in Questions & Answers
Hello everyone hope you are all having a great day, I'm an Egyptian Computer Science student thinking about making a software project in the field of fossils discovery. Briefly, the idea is to use a new discovered fossil (teeth) to make a 3D image of it (like this image here :LINK ), and input the image into the program to classify as Existing, elaborate what fossil is it like in our manually created dataset (using Prof. Hesham Sallam fossils Lab) or as "?" for fossils that don't exist in our dataset, The idea's complexity lies in fossils found might be half a teeth or less, which may be an obstacle classifying it. My question is: What do you think of this project? Should the scale be enlarged? And into what? Do you suggest any additional functionalities? What function could be useful in this field? And lastly, are there any advanced projects of software programs in this field done? Kindly attach a link if so. I only have today and tomorrow to formalize the information. Please respond if you can. -
Over the past few years, I have been collecting(purchasing) various bones of the giant armadillo, Holmesina septentrionalis from the internet. My goal is to eventually build an entire skeleton. Since I live in Colorado, purchasing bones is my only choice. Recently I purchased a left astragalus bone and decided to try and create a right astragalus with my 3d printer. Using my iPhone, I took about 50 pictures of the bone at various angles against a white background. Using Agisoft Metashape and Meshmixer software, I was able to create a 3d image of the bone. This took some trial and error. YouTube instructional videos were very helpful. The 3d image was then loaded into Cura software and printed on my Ender 3 Pro printer. See image of the final painted bone. On the left is the original bone, on the right is the new 3D printed bone.

Hey everyone I hope you’re all staying healthy! I recently saw this post on TFF FB page, unfortunately I just now submitted a request to join the group and cannot comment to ask for the link. So, my question to anyone how can help me, can you provide a link to the software he’s talking about. Those 3D models are super! I want to make some for myself. Any response from you guys would be appreciated, I’m very honored to be a part of this fantastic community. -Nick

My ever expanding fossil collection is without documentation. With all the details of the fossils in my head alone, is there a software or website capable of cataloguing my collection? Ideally i'd like to be able to upload photos of each fossil and fill in custom parameters and notes for each. Does something like this exist? Note: I am running macOS Sierra version 10.12.1
