A couple nights ago I could not sleep and I was checking e-mails and saw one from AmScope, a company that I bought a digital microscope from a while back. I saw the below portable stereoscope that was listed for kids, and it had a phone attachment for pictures. Now the last thing that I needed was another stereoscope, I already have 2 nice ones and the digital one, but I thought that this would be nice to have when on vacations. It is small, light weight, has 10x and 20x eye pieces, but the best feature to me is that the light is battery operated, so it is easy to use anywhere. Here is a picture of a Flexicalymene pygidium that I took pictures of at 10x and 20x, I do not think that it did a bad job. The phone attachment is something that I have to work with to get it right.

I love Fossil Hunting, but I also love Goodwill Hunting. I usually stop in the various Goodwill stores that I see and look around for plastic cases that I could use for fossils, but I also look to see if I can find some other things that I could use for fossils- Today was one of those days. After picking up a couple of plastic cases, I was walking towards the door and noticed something in their locked case. Upon further inspection it was a Bosch & Lomb Stereoscope. I took a look at it and I could not see anything through the optics and I put it back. Before driving away I decided to go back in and use the light on my I Phone to illuminate that stage. I placed a dime on the microscope stage, which can be flipped to white or black, and placed the light so it illuminated the dime and the view through the optics was amazing. The dial that is on top of the microscope is used to zoom in on the object and it works great and every tiny scratch on the dime can be zoomed in. I decided to buy this stereoscope for the price of $19.99, now I have 2 stereoscope’s and I can use my fiber optic lighting for this new scope.

Hello I am looking at purchasing a stereoscope, of which I know very little about! I have narrowed it down to these two models, and would like some feedback on which one would be better for viewing / working on fossils. The big difference between the two is 3.5 - 90x zoom vs 2.0 - 90x zoom. ( from what I can tell) These are Omax brand, probably similar in quality to Amscope. ( I would have chosen Amscope, but seems that there are no distributors in Canada, so costs mount with customs / freight, etc) Also wondering which lighting is best - fluorescent or LED. These are LED, but fluorescent is less expensive. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Regards. The two that I have chosen. http://www.microscopenet.com/35x90x-boom-stand-microscope-30mp-camera144-lig ht-p-9190.html http://www.microscopenet.com/30mp-digital-camera-stereo-zoom-microscope-2x90x144-light-p-9263.html
