caldigger
Dug this little guy out today from same deposit as Sharktooth Hill location ( Mid. Miocene ). What I would like to know is this from a juvenile or a small posterior adult tooth. It is prepped labial side showing. Thanks for your insights.
The Jersey Devil
Sweet posterior tooth. Posterior teeth aren’t good indicators of shark size since a large shark could have had a couple tiny irregular posteriors or a small shark could have had smaller ones as well. That being said, I think there’s a good chance that one’s from an adult. 2 “You must take your opponent into a deep dark forest where 2+2=5, and the path leading out is only wide enough for one.” ― Mikhail Tal
Doctor Mud
Nice tooth! Yours is a posterior tooth. Heres a great resource on fossil shark teeth, Elasmo.com. Ive linked to a reconstructed tooth set for C. Megalodon. http://www.elasmo.com/genera/reconstruct/the_recon.html Some screenshots: Anterior and posterior tooth from the same set/shark. I had found a 5" Meg last year, but it was missing part of the side and some bad enamel peel. I have always found parts of them ( cruel teasers! ) from several different locations around California's Central Coast. Thanks for the size ID everyone, now I can put a label on.
