historianmichael
I purchased this ammonite several years ago but forgot to write down its classification. My guess is that it is originally from Madagascar. Any help with an identification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Can you blame this on a rogue ring finger? Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
FossilDAWG
This species is commonly identified as Cleoniceras besairiei, which is the original genus assignment. More recently the species has been transferred to Aioloceras, so the currently most correct name is Aioloceras besairiei (Collignon, 1949). See this paper (Kennedy & Klinger, 2012) for the most current discussion of the taxonomy. Don
