Found by a friend in Northern Florida. I thought it was a tooth to maybe Gavialosuchus? What are your thoughts??

Looks like a really worn and partial sperm whale or similar cetacean tooth. It has the look of it ... maybe @Shellseeker has some thoughts.

 

I personally don't have anything worn, quite in that way, but here is one that is getting there...

There is no doubt in my mind that this is whale, but like Brett, I am struggling to find an example that looks like it in my collection!!!  I LIKE it,  because it is different... Looks like wear from an opposing tooth in the 2nd photo...

Hello together,

what I find intriguing about this thread is that there seems to be a specific type of decay typical for whale teeth opposed to alligator teeth for example.

Of course that would make sense, as the inner structure determines how the cookie crumbles. Still never thought about it like that.

Any heavily eroded crocodylian teeth for comparison?
