Bet they were pleased with the results of their first fossil hunting trip.  Some nice finds that will clean up nicely.  Are they going to start practicing their prepping skills as well?

Yes, they will try to prep them.
we gave them a box this weekend full of unprepped fossils from our collection to practice prepping. :)

I also started to prep the other side of the Cunningtoniceras that I posted earlier, but I have to finish it this evening:

I took pictures of the venters to point out the difference between the 2 species:

Wow, you did a wonderful job prepping them.  I'll bet that Cunningtoniceras was no small task - literally.  It looks huge!  Have you weighed it, just curious.  Are you going to make a display stand?  Looks like it's too large for a shelf display - for me anyway.

thx, it is not that big, it is probably because it is a close up picture.

The Cunningtoniceras is around 16cm in diameter.

I do have a very big one in my collection of 35cm diameter, but it is not as well preserved as this one.

it depends on the type of matrix , but most of my prepwork on those chalk ammonites is done with a small hammer and different types of small chisels . the fine detail I finish with an air scribe.
