is this a cephalopod fossil ?

Hi this is matthew again 

today in the creek I found a strange looking fossil I think it might be a cephalopod but i'm not sure can anyone be able to tell me what it is ? 

here is a photo

Sure looks like an Orthocone. Where was it found?

Many times I've wondered how much there is to know.

it was found in a creek called 28 mile creek which is near the road called 28th creek road between the 3 towns called ellington and kennedy and gerry  N.Y.

I believe your area of NY is Upper Devonian in age. It also could have been glacial deposited from an area just north of you. I find all my best orthocones from the Upper Devonian shales of NY just North of the locality you stated. So it prob is a straight shelled nautiloid (Orthocone). Happy Collecting
