This rock looks alot like images I've seen on internet  could it be a fossil ?  I have so many rocks I'm not sure if it's my collection or one I inherited. Mine are from California desert  or san bernadino mountains

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Unfortunately, it is not a fossil - looks like a chert nodule.

Images of what? Perhaps if we knew what you are comparing it to, we could explain the difference. This specimen is 100% geological in origin. Keep collecting and keep on asking. That's how you get better at it.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Sorry it’s a rock but welcome to the forum! Keep searching! with experience you’ll learn how to tell the difference and it’s really exciting when you do find them!
