This looks to me like an Ironstone concretion

Thanks for your response! Here are some more details. The triangular depression in this stone is about 7 mm deep and appears to have veins or creases in it and inside the triangle the surface feels very smooth in comparison to the rest of the stone.

I wish I knew what made the depression/fossil imprint in the stone.

Yeah, I noticed that and thought it could fool someone into thinking it was a trilobite cephalon.

We see a lot of unusual shapes in the ironstone formations near Whitby; the area is famous for ironstone. This looks a lot like what we see there but unfortunately your sample doesn’t appear to contain any evidence of fossils
