Guys, I’m not sure what to do with this or about this, other than just keep it.

I have since collected quite a few of this same specimen, all high-detail, but none that capture the full body like this.

What would YOU do?

Nice find.  Where did it come from?  It certainly looks "prep-able".

Thanks a bunch. It came from the Barnett shale here in north Texas.

educate me on what “prepable” means..?

What I am referring to when I say "prepable" is a finer surface (careful) removal of excess matrix to define the details better.  I don't mean it needs a lot of work, just enough to "tidy it up" so your specimen has a better finished look that accentuates the crabs limbs and details, etc.  If it is a specimen that can be carefully washed without removing actual crab parts when finished, I believe it would enhance the appearance.  Just a suggestion.

@James Ryan

I'm not sure where you found your crab, but it certainly did not come from the deeply buried, Mississippian aged, Barnett Shale.

This link will give you a better idea of the surface geology in Texas.

  Nice crab.  If any prep was to be done on it one would need a microscope and a microscribe and looks like a bit of consolidatiing on it.  Otherwise I would leave it alone.
