ID a fossil

Hi,

Found this in Galway in the West of Ireland.

It appears to be a limestone that was part of an eroded bank.

I really know very little about fossils and a totally uneducated guess is an algae fossil.

Thanks for any help.

Dave

Welcome to the forum! It is in limestone and is a slightly oblique section of a colony of Lithostrotion, a coral from the lower Carboniferous period. The area is well known for them, and other corals and fossils of the period. :) .
