funkywormman
Hey there! I need some help identifying this shark jaw that I received as a gift a few years ago. All I know about it is that it came from Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Its about 23 centimeters in width and about 8 centimeters from the top of the mouth to the bottom, my apologies for how gritty the pictures are, my phone camera is not the best. Al Dente
If this was purchased at a tourist shop, it could have come from outside of Mexico. A lot of shells, starfish, urchins and shark jaws sold at shops come from the Philippines. It could be Carcharhinus melanopterus if from the Pacific. If it originated from Mexico it could be C. acronotus or C. perezii based on tooth shape and count.
