Darktooth

My family and I just enjoyed a whirlwind, 3 day mini vacation. Tuesday we got up around 5am and left the house by 6 and headed to New Jersey. We arrived at Big Brook by 10:30. The day started off very slow. We weren't finding much and needed to move around a bit. Finally the last gravel bar that we hit started paying off pretty good. My family wasnt into it as much as me so the boys only found a few items ,but better then nothing. I scored a nice amount, of mainly sharkteeth. (Which is fine by me). Here is my haul.

I agree, some of those Squalis are huge! Nice job Dave! Too bad the family didn't share your enthusiasm as much. Keep the reports coming.

We stayed until around 3 and made our way over to Allentown, Pennsylvania to spend the night. We managed to not have any contact with anyone the whole time in N.J. We then made our to Ohiopyle, in Pennsylvania as we had plans for Whitewater rafting on Thursday. Wednesday we just hung around town, went swimming, did a bit of walking and taking in our surroundings. It is very beautiful there.

Thursday we got up early and started rafting around 9:30 and it ended around 1pm. It was a blast. We were paired up with a mother and daughter from Ohio, in our raft, as well as the guide. After the rafting we stayed around the area to check out the sites and swim some more. We left town around 6 and got home 12:30 this morning. Like I said, it was a whirlwind, but worth every moment just to get out and do something during the summer of Covid.

And really, words can't even describe to you the rafting experience. You would just have to be there to understand.

Very nice! Glad you guys had a fun trip.

Thanks guys! I was really happy with the Squalis. This was the first time that I came away with this many larger ones. I was actually quite surprised by the lack of small teeth. Not that I'm complaining.;)

I should also mention that this was a last minute decision. We didnt know if we should do anything at all but then came up with this plan and just went for it. I am glad we did.

Here is a bridge that crosses the river in town. It is a bike trail that goes all the way to Washington D.C.

I love this Goblin tooth. Despite the tip being broke off, it is in good condition. The enamel has a cool mottled coloration.

Thank-you! As fun as digging at Big Brook was for me, the Rafting made the trip for everyone. It is an awesome activity. It is my wife's and mine 2nd time rafting this river.

Sounds like you had a nice time. Great finds from Big Brook. You have to get the boys more interested in fossils. Your haul is putting theirs to shame. :P

More for me, if they dont put in the effort. I have come to the realization that I cant force my interests on them. Atleast everyone participated in their own way at their own pace. Even my wife managed to find one. And it was her idea to include a stop for fossils. Especially since my panick attack back in February, the last time I was in New Jersey.

Rafting and Kayaking are two activities that my wife and I enjoy doing together. I am so glad that we got a chance to do it. Hope you are doing well Jeff. Sorry we couldn't meet up.
