stellabear
Hi all. I am sure this is an easy one for you but I would like to be sure, since my guess is only a guess! I apologize that the only measuring tape I had was in inches, but i believe it is just under 35 mm. Found in the green mill run. Near the tar river in Greenville NC USA Thank you!

hemipristis
I concur w/croc. Conical shape suggests. Nice find! 'Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.' George Santayana
Al Dente
Looks like mosasaur to me. Can we see some photos from different angles?
stellabear
Thanks! It is hard to see in the pictures but the tooth is smooth all around but there is a definite sharp ridge from the top to the base on the inside curve
Hipockets
I thought a round cavity was croc and an oval cavity was mosasaur ?
Al Dente
30 minutes ago, Hipockets said: I thought a round cavity was croc and an oval cavity was mosasaur ? There are always exceptions to the rule. The curvature on this one is toward the carina, which is toward the rear of the mouth. That is typical of mosasaurs. Croc teeth will usually curve toward the center of the mouth.
stellabear
What is a carina? Sorry! I am trying to learn and Google was not a lot of help
Hipockets
Based on Al Dente's interesting fact, and what looks like an oval cavity, I am in the mosasaur camp.
Hipockets
The carina is like a seam or edge that runs the length of the tooth.
