Le Ouistiti
Hello everybody, i received this mosasaur jaw (a dentary) from morocco, i don’t have any information on. The teeth are missing but i count 14 alveoli. According to the mosasaur thread of Jnoun 11, i think it’s maybe Mosasaurus beaugei or hoffmanni but i’m not sure for the identification, someone can help me to put a specie on this enigmatic dentary ? Top Trilo
It looks very thin for a mosasaur but I could be wrong, i often am “If fossils are not "boggling" your mind then you are simply not doing it right” -Ken (digit) "No fossil is garbage, it´s just not completely preserved” -Franz (FranzBernhard) "With hammer in hand, the open horizon of time, and dear friends by my side, what can we not accomplish together?" -Kane (Kane) "We are in a way conquering time, reuniting members of a long lost family" -Quincy (Opabinia Blues) "I loved reading the trip reports, I loved the sharing, I loved the educational aspect, I loved the humor. LordTrilobite
Definitely looks like a right mosasaur dentary. Seems to slender for Mosasaurus hoffmanni or M. beaugei to be honest. I'd suggest looking at Halisaurus. But with just a dentary and no teeth at all an ID will be hard. I think I'm seeing a replacement tooth in that last photo. A closer look at that might yield results. Mosasaurus spp. has fairly robust teeth and have fluting or faceting most of the time. Halisaurus teeth are more diminutive and are quite strongly recurved. 1 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
jnoun11
i think also it s mosasaur dentary, but without teeth its difficult to identifying correctly. what is the size in centimeters? lenght and width ,will help. no fragments of teeth ? The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. Terry Pratchett ... Le Ouistiti
The lenght is 40 cm, and the width 2,5 cm. There are replacement teeth, but not entirely and i think too small to say anything on.
