daves64 Posted October 8, 2020 Share Posted October 8, 2020 Not bone or coral I don't think. Lots of drusy quartz on what looks like may be quartz veins after softer rock has weathered away. grandpa Posted October 8, 2020 Share Posted October 8, 2020 Hello and welcome to TFF from Austin, Tx. This looks to me like a sedimentary, limestone vug filled with (what I think is) nail-head calcite crystals. Place some vinegar on a less conspicuous area of the crystals and see if they fizz. If so, calcite; if not, likely quartz. You might also want to shine a SW UV light on this specimen if you have access to one. These sedimentary vugs (assuming that is what it is) often will be fluorescent. BTW was this found in the general area of Grand Junction by chance?
