kushmeja
Hi guys! Just found this big tooth in Ramanessin Creek in Holmdel, NJ earlier today. It's about 2" long and in excellent condition. Probably the largest tooth I've ever found. I know that it's either a croc, mosasaur or plesiosaur, but I'm not sure which. Any help with the ID would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for the poor pics, I'm still out collecting and my curiosity couldn't wait!
abyssunder
It's very nice! I'm not an expert on this kind of teeth, so my guess about it being a crock tooth might be just a dream... 1 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. That's my guess too, but it also looks pretty similar to the plesiosaur tooth I found a few hundred yards away a few months ago, so I'm not sure. RuMert
My vote is for plesiosaur because no carinae. Need to exclude fish though 1 My sites & reports

Thomas.Dodson
I concur with plesiosaur. Nice find.
kushmeja
Thanks for the input guys! If the absence of carinae indicates plesiosau, then I think that is what it is now! There isn't a ridge, and the tooth is in excellent shape, so it wouldn't have eroded away. I've been having great luck with the section of creek where I found this. Going to have to go there more often than I have been!
jerseygurl
Nice find. I haven’t been out since bow season started... don’t want to annoy the hunters. Good luck with the rest of your day.

Pagurus
I'll leave it to others for the ID, though my first thought was plesiosaur, but I just wanted to add my congratulations. I'd be jumping for joy if I found it. It's years since I've been there, and now I'm eager to get back! Start the day with a smile and get it over with. Darktooth
I am pretty sure that is a plesiosaur, and I think that is probably one of the best that I have ever seen come from there. Consider yourself extremely lucky. To find a plesiosaur of that size and condition, well that is a very rare find for sure. I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie. -Andy-
I vote for plesiosaur tooth too. That's one hell of a find! Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday!
PaleoNoel
Consensus is Plesiosaur, which I agree with, potentially the Elasmosaurid Cimoliasaurus magnus, although there are likely multiple plesiosaur genera in NJ. Awesome find, they are quite rare and certainly on my bucket list.
The Jersey Devil
That's the best 'nessie tooth I've seen from around here! Awesome size, condition, and especially color. “You must take your opponent into a deep dark forest where 2+2=5, and the path leading out is only wide enough for one.” ― Mikhail Tal

FranzBernhard
I have no experience with such kind of fossils, but it is really a very, very nice and big tooth. Congrats also from me, @kushmeja. Would you like to submit it for "Fossil of the Month"? It will gain even more audience and appreciation and it will very probably win.
