Colorado dinosaur vertebrae???

Hi guys,

I found this dinosaur(?) vertebrae in a Phoenix, Arizona antique shop all by itself in a dusty, dark corner. I wanted to give it life back and purchased it for a bargain price. It was only labelled "Colorado dinosaur bone". To me, it looks like Morrison Formation material based on its surprising, beautiful color. Maybe sauropod or stegosaurus??? I know it's really worn, but it has a great shape in person and very heavy for its size. Talk about size, it's 7 inches long and 4.5 inches tall even worn down this much!

Any help identifying it would be awesome! Thank you!

It’s very worn and I’m not sure if it can be attributed to a specific species without a more specific location. It’s a cool piece nonetheless but more info is most likely needed.

Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils;).

While it is VERY worn, it does look to be a vertebra centrum. I don't see it being a dinosaur though. I don't recognize it as either sauropod or stegosaur. While I'm not a whale guy, I think this looks like whale.

Thanks guys! For $40.00, I couldn't pass it up! As of today, I will call it an "Unidentified Ancient Whale Vertebra centrum" from Colorado, USA.

It could be a whale vertebra, but it is so worn it's hard to be very certain.  If it is a whale, though, it certainly isn't from Colorado, as there are no marine rocks of an appropriate age anywhere in the State or for a long ways in any direction from there.

Thanks again! I will now call it an "Unidentified Ancient Whale Vertebra centrum" from origins unknown.
