Chris Anderson
Me and my wife found this tooth on Myrtle Beach today. I believe it is a bison tooth. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We were so excited to find this!!!!!
Harry Pristis
We need a better image of the occlusal surface, Chris. Preliminarily, it appears to be a horse lower cheek tooth. 4 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

I've come to realize that determining if a lower molar is from a 3 toed horse can be difficult. It involves measuring the length of the occlusial surface and it is different for each tooth. Measure the greatest length of the crown as shown in your photo, as a start.

I think we will find that your tooth is Equus .sp lower right p2. Your tooth should measure a little over an inch. Tridactly horses generally have p2's under an inch. Picture courtesy of @fossillarry Here is one of the bigger Tridactyl horses courtesy of @Harry Pristis: Note that the lower m3 is just under an inch. Here is one of the smaller Tridactyl horses at 19 mm. 1 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
