Shellseeker
Hunting yesterday yields small shark teeth, lots of dermal denticles, a Meg, possible whale bones and this vertebrae. Likely modern due to fragility, pristine nature of very light bone. I thought lizard (iguana, monitor), maybe snake (Boa)... We have some strange pet store imports these days. Hopefully someone has seen something similar. I have not... It is L 32 x W 31 x H 20 mm All suggestions appreciated. jpc
Mammalian C2, or axis, second cervical. That pointy thing on the top in your third photo is the odontoid process, fits into the back of C1 (atlas). Also the overgrown neural spine is typical of mammal axis. As for which animal..... ??? ClearLake
This looks familiar to me. Below is an armadillo C2 from an internet article that looks similar. Tomorrow, I will go out and take a look at my armadillo and other skeletons to see if it is a match.
Shellseeker
Thank you!!! There is no way that I would have identified this one by myself!!! Your identification demonstrates the huge value of the TFF members. The Vert is fragile, unlikely to survive very long in the rough churn of the Peace River.
