spaceviking
Hi im a mineral hunter, and my whife picked up this little thing, first i was thinking it was some kind of slag, but after closer inspection it seem to have kind of a organic shape and is non magnetic with lots of small pores. Can this be a fossilized thing?
Fossildude19
Your first instinct was correct. This is some form of slag. FossilDAWG
Welcome to the Fossil Forum! I have to agree with Tim, your specimen appears to be slag, as was your initial impression. Although it has a porous interior, it does not show a structure consistent with bone. It is possible that you will occasionally encounter fossils in your hunts for mineral specimens. We will be happy to look at anything you (or your wife) suspect to be a fossil and offer an opinion. Don
ClearLake
Welcome to the forum!! Slag is possible, so is some form of igneous rock. No sure what the geology of your area is. Agree with the others, it does not appear to be bone.
