Fossil or rock

Found this at the Peace river in FL. I am convinced it is a rock while my dad thinks it is a fossil because he has seen it before. I think my old man is crazy. Someone please end this debate with a definite answer haha

May just be a phosphatic pebble but this image makes me wonder if it is not a coprolite (paleo-poo). Any thoughts @GeschWhat ?

Cheers.

I don't know much about coprolites but I have seen a few of them and I also believe that this is a coprolite.

P.S.: Now you have to apologize to your dad for thinking him to be crazy. :P Father knows best...at least one time in ten. :)

Technically, it is a rock and a fossil. So a little respect - your dad obviously knows his c r a p! Like being crazy is a bad thing? ;)

Coprolite. Scratch and sniff just to be sure

Thankfully, that does not work. Lori has mentioned how some coprolites (though not these densely phosphatized ones) are porous and will stick to your your tongue if licked. You have to be pretty darned sure that it is fossilized if you are going to try that test.

We'd love to see if you have any other mystery fossils from your collecting trip on the Peace River. You can post them in a separate ID topic if you have any others you'd like our input on.

Cheers.
