Fossil_Adult
I hit the Potomac yesterday after a long hiatus for some Paleocene sharks teeth. I also decided to include a few of my finds from the recent Stratford hall trip, which was pretty decent. I always go to Douglas point for my Paleocene teeth because it’s just a good area and I almost always come back with a complete otodus. This time, that didn’t happen, though I did find a few broketodus teeth so meh. But I did come back with some good stuff, including a monster croc tooth, and a gigantic goblin sharks tooth. I also got a fish jaw with a lot of teeth in it and some other nice stuff, in addition to what I think is either a tortoise or turtle leg spur, which I thought was a large worntodus on first glance. On the Stratford trip, I got some cool Snaggles (not pictured below) some makos, and a drum fish jaw with two teeth on the side that came right out the clay. 6 people walked right by it! Plain as day I don’t even know how they could not have spotted it the thing was very obviously exposed! Anyways, here’s all the spoils. 1
Northern Neck
Looking good man. I need to get back out. I'm still recovering from hunting a few weeks ago. 41 but bending over looking for a whole weekend hurts! Most at Strafford look on edge of water. No one checks the high tide line and half wall by the good stuff. Just such a small beach.
Fossil_Adult
There’s a few lines of gravel I make sure to thoroughly check from the top to the waters edge. However, my method is to just bring a 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 foot screen and a large shovel. I then go for the large cobbles where big teeth might be and it’s hard work but I’ll know it’s worth it when I pop out a big tooth at some point. I hope you can recover, this hobby really can strain the back.
Chuck W
Great stuff! I didn't know that Stratford was still open. I collected there most of teenage and college years. But that was about 40 years ago (man, time flies!) Here are some remnants of what I collected there oriented by species. Back in the day!
cck
There is a small public beach, but the cliffs are closed except for organized trips.
